No one has as much luck with their camera as those who practice their craft.

That makes sense. You're slipping.

This is strictly for fun (yes I know it’s a bit silly, but…) so let’s leave the potential snarks at the door!

An alien comes to Earth and creates an uncontrollable GAS attack on every photographer on earth. You have to pick one photography tool. It can be a camera, lens, lighting equipment…whatever. You get one item. Affordability aside, what do you choose?

What tool I choose depends on if the Alien is paying for this one item or not. Though he may try, this "attack" will have no effect on me anyway, as I have keenly mastered these uncontrollable GAS attacks. But if Mr. Alien can muster up or replicate a Z9, then I suppose that’s what I’d like from him.

If we gave two people a brand new camera and lens, and after a week we learned only one had practiced, who do you think will be better?

Ansel Adams? Certainly in the running for being better than the other two.

Fun question

For me I have all the gear I need Sony A7RIV, A1, A7SIII.

-13 E-mount lenses from 10mm to 600mm from Sony, Sigma, Tamron.
-Multiple Godox and Flashpoint strobes, wireless remotes, macro strobes, numerous light modifiers, stands, tripods, camera cases.
-48 years of experience as a pro shooting all subjects from war to pro sports all around the world
- Both my BFA and Masters Degree in Photography
-Years of teaching photography to students at a state university

-I have been blessed with a passion, and hard work and developed talent did the rest.

Just more time on this earth, healthy to continue my journey.

Cheers

When you measure the ingredients of success, what is the ratio of talent to practice to equipment?

The question was what gear would you want if money were no object. Practice is essential but it doesn't respond to the question asked. Not that I care since this is all for fun and I'm not even choosing to participate. Oh, well, I do like the sound of that clock that rolls time back 50 years. Oh, to be 20 again....and know what I do now.

I'd pay Elon Musk's labs to develop an automated 100% effective de-dusting apparatus for my camera sensor.

Could be based on electrostatic electricity, nuclear reactions, quantum entanglement, dark energy, whatever... I don't care.

I hate dust.

Speaking of dust, Musk and space exploration, there was a story last week about a Mars seismic exploration robot that's dying because its solar panels are covered with dust. I was thinking, with all the millions they spend on building these space probes why didn't someone think to add a small windshield wiper to clear the dust off the panels or a can of Dustoff built in to blow it off once in a while. Seems kind of short sighted.

Permanent alien status in Iceland. Can't think of a better venue for photography.

I would choose the Nikon 800 mm E lens. I might choose the new Z 400 mm or the Z800 mm. The other option would be a large tracking telescope for creating stacked Astro images. If I could create my equipment wish, it would be something with the clarity and reach of the Star Trek screen visualizations from space to alien planets, or maybe their hand held medical diagnostic device that could peer into the human body and image it with such detail.

I 100% agree with you Cany143. That would be the best thing ever. I would be happy to go back 50 years.
