Thanks everyone. Yup. Had been shooting sunset shots until it got dark, then on impulse took one moon shot but forgot to change ISO (it was at 3200!, lol). Next time, I'll remember.
Uhhhh... Why are you shooting sunsets at ISO 3200? :lol:
It was almost dark - was shooting silhouettes and the tailend end of sunset clouds.
Just asking. Sounded kind of strange. :thumbup:
Here's a shot taken w/ ISO at 3200 (2 versions edited differently)
Sunset from rim of Montrose Canyon #1
Sunset from rim of Montrose Canyon #2
In taking this shoot of the moon the settings are:
ISO 100
f 11
SS 1/125
Can you tell me what aperture, shutter spped and ISO did you use for this Moon shot. It is very good and clear. Am keen to know. Thanks
Aperture= F-11
Shutter Speed= 125
ISO= 100
Have a great day.

Nice shots but I guess in my of thinking I shoot with a lower ISO and use a tripod. Every situation is different and my comment was not meant to be critical. I had a favorite spot on the East side of Mobile Bay for sunsets. I would set up and wait for the changing light. Just kick back with AV control set and the light right at sunset would change so rapidly I was lucky to fire off ten exposures. :thumbup:
I have found that if you have live view it is also good to use it for moon shots. Also use manual focus with camera on a tripod and cable release. What ever you can do to keep your camera from moving.
Hi There!
Here is one that I took on 11.27. Close to a full moon.
The Exif data:Exif data
Camera Sony SLT-A77V
Exposure 0.005 sec (1/200)
Aperture f/8.0
Focal Length 600 mm
ISO Speed 100
Exposure Bias 0 EV
Flash Off, Did not fire
The lens used was a 600mm Minolta G series. I used a shutter release cable and tripod. No need for mirror lock-up on the SLTs. If you have a mirror that flips, you should lock it up as well.
What I have found effects the image quality (other than camera shake/vibration) is haze in the atmosphere. Not as large of a problem in the fall/winter months, but causes me images issues if I try to do moon shots in the summer.

To eliminate reflection, remove UV filter from lens. Centering moon in viewfinder will also help.
And properly expose for moon detail! It is noon on the moon. Start at 1/ISO at f/16.

Thanks for sharing your beautiful photo, and the settings you used.
I like the shot like it is...different, almost ghostly...
Thanks, Ryan

Why are the shots 2 different colors? Is it your WB settings, or did you manipulate in post?
Either way, they are nice and I like the cactus!
