Indeed. Sometimes I wonder why I put so much money and effort into photography. When I'm gone, what will become of those hard drives filled with pictures? What will happen to my camera equipment?

Then I snap out of it. I can't control it, so why worry about it.

Man, the exact same thoughts go through my mind. I have so many photo albums and external drives filled with my photos that will probably just be thrown out when I pass. I just can't dwell on it and I love taking pictures so I'll carry on. I've tried to get younger family members interested, but all they want to use is a cell phone!

I have owned the 28-105 Nikon lens since around 2002. It came to me with a D100 that I bought used. It has served me very well.
The lens is sharp with excellent corner resolution at most apertures. Very little distortions at the wide angle settings. It has the convenient "macro" setting. I have shot beautiful portraits with this lens outdoors and in the studio. Precisely today I posted the shot of a flower I photographed in our backyard. The lens is very well made.

I also owned a D300, a very good tool. Old stuff still works beautifully with digital.

Thanks Rob! Yeah, they shouldn't call it a vaccine if it doesn' t work.

A lot of people died of lack of being vaccinated.

I agree, although not a true macro it focuses to around 1/3 lifesize which is adequate for most flower shots.

The D300 did the job for you - nice set. Hope you feel better soon.

I'd been stuck inside with covid for the past 2 weeks(even though I've been vaxxed and boosted) so this morning I had to get out. As a project I dug out my oldest camera(D300) and attaches a lens that I hadn't used in years, 28-105 macro D and shot a variety of pictures. The old stuff(including me) still works pretty good.

I often pull out the old D200, which still behaves perfectly. Something about the old CCD-type sensor seems to produce far more pleasing colors than the currently-used CMOS sensors. GAS can be a terrible thing, driving individuals to sideline some very desirable gear. Your images from the D300 are examples suggesting that there is still useable life in that "old beast."

BTW: Hope your recovery from COVID is fast and complete.
