Nikon USA is having a sale on refurbs for the next three days, but especially noticeable was that the D500 shows up as being available and for sale. There is no 'out of stock' or 'back ordered' notation, so whether production of new ones is discontinued and there are no more available, it would at least appear that the refurbished version is in stock and ready for shipment?

I believe I purchased my refurbished D5300 after it was discontinued.
At the time, it was the only Nikon DSLR with GPS built-in.
Lightweight and a decent travel camera.

Those refurbished cameras were previously sold as new and for some reason ended up back at Nikon. They may or may not have had defects that needed repair. In any case, they're gone over to make sure that they meet specs and then sold again at a reduced price.

Yesterday, I ordered a refurbished Z 35mm f/1.8 S for $450 at Nikonusa.com. A $250 savings. First time buying refurbished from Nikon as I usually buy used from KEH.com when available, but I couldn't pass up the deal. I wonder why Nikon only offers a 90 day warranty. Most companies offer their full new gear warranty for refurbished equipment.

A 90 day warranty limits their liability so they can offer items at a lower price.

Accounting and Statistics, not only market forces set the price.

In their mind, to offer a full year warranty, they would have to charge more.

I just looked at the Nikon USA site. The sale looks pretty good provided you are in the market to buy.

I see they’re discounting the 105 1.4 E by $1100. Wonder why?

If it was there it must have been a flash sale because I see no trace of that kind of discount on that lens. Am I looking in the wrong place? I was on Nikon USA?

Must have sold all they had at that price as I can't find it or I'm missing it?

I don't see it on their site under refurbished lenses. Were you on the Nikon site? If you can bring it up, can you send a link to the page where you see it?

I don't doubt what you're looking at. I just can't find it. The 4 day summer sale is 10% off, and this lens isn't even listed. Can you send a link to click on that brings up a page with this particular lens and price?
