Very, very excellent images. I’m curious as to what the sizes of these turtles relative to each other. My experiences with painted turtles range from the sub-2 inch tabletop turtles that were given as prizes at fairs and carnivals, up to the lake and stream 6” or so variety. Snappers, though I have seen in Kentucky Lake many years ago near the spillway that could snap a two by four in half I would say they got as big as a wash tub, but I don’t know how many people today can relate to how big a wash tub is/was.

Thanks for the compliment! I'm glad you enjoyed seeing these shots!
I would guess that the painted turtle had a shell that was about 8-9", after a quick inspection it was a female- the underside of the shell was flat (a male's would be concave) also females are a bit bigger than males and the claws were pretty short (a male's claws would be larger).
This snapping turtle is one of the smaller ones that I've seen coming out of the pond, I would guess it's shell was about 15-16". I didn't inspect this one too closely cause it actually tried to bite my leg, I just took a quick shot and left it to it's business!

Thank you!
Painted turtles are pretty docile, it wasn't too difficult to get a shot of it. The snapping turtle, though, was a bit aggressive, it tried biting me a few times, but it eventually settled down for a portrait!
Thank you Longshadow, UTMike, kpmac and NMGal for the thumbs up and the positive feedback! I'm glad you all liked the shots!
The snapping turtle is saying, "This is your last warning, go away!"
The snapping turtle is dangerous, fast, and mean-spirited when messed with.
Yes, I said fast . . .
