... that's what I've heard rain called that has a sharp demarcation between what gets wet and what doesn't- so sharp a distinction that, should you lean your double-barrel shotgun against a tree, you might find one barrel filled and the other not...

What an incredible shot. I have seen the phenonium in Arizona but never a picture . We say down here you can keep your body dry and wash your hands

I, too, have observed this phenomenon, and in Arizona, also. However it was MANY years ago - probably around 1940 or so. When driving from Southern California to Arizona we saw ahead what appeared to be a most ominous sky. Approaching this very dark area we suddenly were in a downpour. It had been just as described, and as pictured here - a veritable waterfall, on one side it was sunny and clear, on the other, pouring rain!

Riding a motorbike, I had one follow me down the road for a good while and found a good place to shelter before it overtook. I was laughing all the way.
