Lucky! From the Washington Post.

"She found $36,000 inside a chair she got for free on Craigslist."

Good story.

It's the Washington Post website. They allow us a few views before we have to subscribe. I have reached the limit so wasn't able to see the article. I will have to pay more attention to the link and not click on anything from the Washington Post. And I'm not going to buy into their "Try Free for 4 weeks" scam.

The IRS will be coming for it's share. Should have kept quiet.

As a collectibles fanatic, I follow and enjoy stories like this from time to time. One guy, in 1991 found a copy of the Declaration of Independence neatly folded, tucked inside an old frame worth hundreds of thousand $$$. See: https://www.nytimes.com/1991/04/03/arts/declaration-of-independence-found-in-a-4-picture-frame.html (You may have trouble with a paywall).

Last July 2021, another copy of the Declaration was found in a Scottish attic worth a bit more: $4.4 million! See: https://nypost.com/2021/07/02/declaration-of-independence-copy-found-in-scottish-attic-sells-for-4-4m/

In 2014, a California couple found a hoard of American gold coins on their property worth $10 million after the auction. See: https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/california-couple-finds-10m-gold-coins-buried-yard-n38471

Hoards of old Roman and other ancient coins are found regularly in England. You can see lists of such hoards by Googling: Roman and ancient coin hoards. By law, you must report these findings to the respective board and they will determine the value of the hoard and give a percentage share to the finder.

You can hear more stories like these if you watch PBS Antiques Roadshow and other programs.

Be well! Ed

Clear your cache and use a different browser. Should get you a few more peeks.

She gave it back to the owner of the chair. The furniture belonged to a relative who passed away. They had heard that he hid money around the house, and they had found $1,000.

"Finding" $36,000 could be a problem, though. Having a lot of cash all of a sudden could raise suspicions with the IRS.

No. Unlike another "news" source, this one is factual.

I've run into that myself. If you Google whatever the topic happens to be, you'll find other references online.

Thanks for the tip. I tried that and found the story elsewhere. I agree, it was a nice story.
