wide open is correct

You all might not appreciate the method, but after most of the last 8 pages these responses are relatively effective. Responding with artistic exemplars from f/64 to wide open seems to have gone over everyone's head. Not everyone is wired the same.

Peace.

I used a news paper at 5 feet ,camera on a tripod, a good lens will let you read the print at say 5.6 to 11.

I don't think these comments are warranted... I live in Alabama and I am offended. regardless of the rankings and regardless of the fact we are a poor state, I am proud to live in my state. I don't see where all the grads from prestigious NE universities are doing such a GREAT job running this country...

Proud of your state or not they consistently rank near the bottom in education and many other state rankings. I’m not saying there aren’t intelligent people in those states, but I was looking at possible reasons for the unintelligible musings of a certain poster from Mississippi.

I agree with CHG...
Thought we could ask questions and get advice on some photo issues, camera's and lenses. Maybe get some good ideas like what CHG did here.

There are unintelligible people in every state and country. That’s what makes the world go around.

I guess you aren’t smart enough
To read my entire post which references higher education. Just saying…..

I was smart enough to read it and discount it. Those institutions have nothing to do with the level of public education in those states.

Absolutely agree. But my original point was that we should not be making generalizations about an entire state based on our reaction to one sad and possibly mentally disturbed resident. No state is immune to that. We have our share of disagreeable oddballs in New Jersey as well.

While it may have been inspired by one resident my comment holds. The “generalization” is based on the actual rankings of your education systems.

They are mostly public Universities.
A public school is a college or university primarily funded by a state government. Public colleges and universities generally are larger than private schools and have larger class sizes. Hence, public education.

Guess they don't teach manners or common decency in your state. Go take your garbage to a different forum

Spin it however you like. The fact is those states consistently rank near the bottom in education. And it’s not the only thing they rank near the bottom in.

I see plenty of your garbage in here. I made a statement of fact, not directed at either of these guys and they took issue with it. If it was my state, rather than defending the indefensible I would ask what I could do to improve that state.

I have read that, from an optics perspective only, F-8 is in general the best optical setting for most lenses (though obviously not every image will be best at F-8). If this is true, does this suggest that parameters such as diffraction and aberrations are minimized at F-8? Some other reason? Or is this simply not true and F-8 is not generally the best optical condition?

Thanks in advance for your help, it is much appreciated.

That is a generalization and does not apply to many lenses. Most of my prime lenses are best at around f/5.6 and the Nikon 35mm AF-S DX f/1.8 I have is actually best at f/4. You can find resolution charts for most lenses on the internet.

My wife has the 35mm f1.8 and that chart supports what she sees. She shoots that one a lot at f4

What does education ranking have to do with f stops.
