Thanks for describing your musical background, Mark. What I don’r see, or may have missed, is any description of playing out. Were you in any bands (successful or otherwise)? I’m a bit younger than you - Beatles-inspired bass player - who came late to jazz, and still gigging. IMHO, it’s the live performance that makes it all worthwhile.

I played in HS & Grammar school bands. At 14, a few friends and I started a Dance Band. I played in dance bands and small night club bands for many years. Truly loved those experiences.

Several years ago my neighbor Frank who is a generation older than I am got me listening to 40s Junction on Sirius radio. Today I am a big fan of Vaughn Monroe, Harry James, Charles Trenet, Bea Wain/Larry Clinton and many more.

My grandfather said similar about the popular music from the 50 - 60’s music.
