Tritomegas sexmaculatus Rambur's Pied Shieldbug, Family Cydnidae

I found this little one on a potato leaf, I have seem similar in previous years. There are a lot of similar species.

Apparently, this one is a relative newcomer to S.E. England and particularly to Kent where I live. It is very similar to Tritomegas bicolor Pied Shieldbug, Family Cydnidae.

It is nice to see a few insects appearing in the garden.

Nice image, Brenda. Is it harmful to your plants?

Thanks Ken, I have read that this bug mainly feeds on Black Horehound Ballota nigra which is a common wild plant of the Mint family and has small pink flowers. I am not aware I have ever seen it but I will look out for it now. Apparently, it is used in medicine for stomach upsets.

So the answer to your question is that I have not noticed any plant damage from these and I rarely see one. Slugs and snails on the other hand are my nemesis.

It is pronounced as it reads, no pitfalls except Cydnidae which I can only guess at.
