A couple of months ago I mentioned I was planning on cutting the cable and asked for some advice from those of you who have done so. This month I pulled the plug. My 1 TB service went from 266.00 a month to 91.00 (most likely about 100.00 with taxes etc.). I added Disney + which also gave me Hulu and ESPN+ for 14.00 a month, likewise for Netflix at 15.00 a month and Peacock at 5.00 a month. So all in all, I will be saving about 120.00 a month. The one thing I hated loosing with cable was the golf channel but ESPN+ has a nice substitute. I can dial in to watch a select group or at times they offer a view of some of the most interesting or challenging holes. The transition cost about 500.00: Antenna (for local broadcast) 60, modem 170, mesh system 200, Roku 70. In less than half a year I'll have made that money back and then the system really will be paying dividends. Thanks to all you Hoggers for your info and for the encouragement to get on with it. I had been considering it and looking into doing it for over a year.

That's another one of the areas in which we're fortunate. Our TV is free - through the subdivision office - though I never watch it, and my wife seldom does. Our unlimited WiFi, with a hotspot in our apartment, is the equivalent of about $10 a month, fiber optic cable, though only a maximum of 100 GB. As with cellphone also, it's up and down, and occasionally not there at all - but that's just the way it is here, and nothing we're able to do about it.

Some bundles, like ESPN+/Hulu/Disney+ for $14 don't offer new programming (*see note below for ESPN+); you just choose from their libraries. It's only when you go to full Hulu, YouTube TV, Fubo etc ($75 and up) that you have the same channels and show times as you find with cable tv - and those subscriptions include online DVR service.

*ESPN+ does include some live sports. I watched a few live college basketball games in November. They make recordings available for several days in case you missed your favorite Disney+ keeps same movies and shows available for months at a time; there's a handy "favorites" (I forget exact term) feature where you can store your list of what you plan to watch.

Here's an informative link: https://www.disneyplus.com/welcome/disney-hulu-espn-bundle

Linda, you helped me to decide to change over to streaming rather than pay for Dish or DirecTV. With Dish or DirecTV you still need to purchase high speed internet. Where I used to live it was less expensive for high speed internet ($50/mo).

Now I have YoutubeTV for $65/mo, Paramount+ $10/mo, and MLB network for $25/mo plus I have to pay $75/mo for high speed internet with enough data as to not incur overages on data. So in total, I pay about $175/mo for entertainment and when I had DirecTV it was $165/mo plus high speed internet for $50/mo. But where I live now the internet service would cost $75.

So I save about $65/mo now over what I would be paying for just DirecTV. I'd have to pay more if I wanted Paramount+ and MLB network with the DirecTV....

A big benefit of the streaming services IMO is the ease with which you can cancel, sign up, or renew at a later date, depending on your interests. The first time I subscribed to Disney+ it was to watch the new Pixar movie at the time, "Soul." The next time was for The Beatles Get Back, which I kept viewing - a bit obsessively - for two months

I'm currently interested only in MLB, so I do their subscription directly for a single season payment. Veterans can get a 35% discount!

NOTE: to clarify, MLB Network is not the same thing as MLB.TV

MLB Network is one of channels you get with the basic package on YouTube TV (at least it was last year), and includes the talk shows and such. The subscription (either as additional cost via YouTube TV and others, or as a "stand-alone" service) for MLB.TV gives you live access to every out of market game that is played during the regular season (except Sunday Night's ESPN game) + recordings of your in-market and the ESPN game (and others you may have missed). My favorite feature is you can choose which team's announcing coverage to watch of any game.

Example of today's games and menu options, MLB.TV

with the additions you made you might reconsider netflix, the other two will cover it fine.

I'll have to look into YouTube. I can't bundle since I already bundle home phone and internet with Xfinity. Don't want to change that. Thanks for the info!
