I lately encounter this unexpected/unwanted rotation issue in Light Room 6.14 after importing. The photo was taken with a Leica Q and the original file format is DNG. The rotation was not seen in the original when viewing in Windows 10. I appreciate very much if UHH LR experts can please help me ID the cause(s) and how to correct it. Thanks.
I have to click the box 'constrain to image'. Otherwise, like shown, you have a blank canvas of the original image against which the crop operates.

Thanks Paul for your prompt assistance. I did not touch the photo (i.e., crop or rotate) at all, the shown rotated photo was the only instance among all the photos and it has happened haphazardly in the past. Of course, I can straighten, crop it and use the box 'constrain to image' but with that correction, I will lose the original edges. I just want to know why LR did that on its own. BTW, the photo was taken in Badlands National Park in South Dakota.
I have not played with presets for awhile so am rusty. Could you have inadvertently applied a preset saved from another image with some crop tool rotation?.

Thanks much Bill. The rotation just showed up right after I’d finished the first two steps (import and develop). I’ve not applied any preset.
I suspect the random photo rotation issue could probably be attributed to Leica Q lens auto-correction because I just finished importing into LR over 1,000 photos that I’d converted from Nikon (Z7) Raw to DNG and none of the photos is rotated.

Strange. I've never seen Lightroom do that with any camera.

It really is! Once in a while I get trapezoid shapes too. Luckily I shoot multiple shots and just delete the weird ones. But I still am interested in finding the causes.
Just a suggestion - DNG files can contain information on adjustments. Perhaps the Leica isn't passing on appropriate instructions to Lr under certain circumstances. Maybe there's a mismatch between Leica's Transform adjustments and how Lr reads them. You'd probably find that SOOC jpegs never show that effect.

Thanks R.G. We’re getting closer with your suggestion. I agree with you, there must be something wrong/missing between Leica and Lr. I have edited thousands of photos taken with Leica Q and Nikon Z7 in the past using Lr and never experienced the problems until lately. Again, it is worthwhile to note that the ”problem” photos (Leila’s DNG files) are fine when viewed in Windows file explorer. I only shoot in RAW and would think SOOC jpegs are fine too.
Just out of curiosity, when you get one of the problem files, have you tried opening the Transform section in Lightroom to see if the adjustments are there? If they are, it wouldn't be difficult to reverse them, in which case you would recover the clipped corners. On the other hand, if the adjustments come baked in and everything is at zero in the Transform tool, you won't be able to recover the lost areas.
You say the problem images are OK when viewed in Windows Explorer. If you're talking about seeing them in a photo viewer (as opposed to seeing a thumbnail as an icon), that suggests that the image is all there. If it's just a thumbnail that you're seeing, that can be different from the original image in the file.

Go to Transform in LR, turn it off.??
Look at your edit history for this image. If anything other than import, that is where the change occurred.
I had LR do a similar thing to about 5 images out of hundreds imported from a trip. It added a rather large clone section. Nothing I did would get rid of it, although it wasn't there in the original when viewed in explorer. I opened the image in PS, and the cloned section wasn't there. I deleted them from LR and tried again - still there! Never did figure it out.

Do you have it set to do this in import settings?
