Why not just never log out?

We never had such checkbox. You are always logged in until you log out or until your browser clears cookies.

but I got to log in every day and no I do not log out had to clear cookies last week ever since I have to log in every time I come to UHH

It means your browser is clearing cookies automatically. That's what logs you out.
