A couple years back, I got startled by some noise behind one of my sheds. Thinking it was a black bear, I slowly looked around all four sides. Not seeing anything, I went back to what I was doing when I noticed a very tiny fox kit poke it's head around the corner where I had heard the noise originally. I was so excited, I almost fell down!
I got my camera and was ready to start taking photos when another kit appeared then, another. Five in all. Of course, they were not afraid of me and I'm pretty sure it was their very first day out of the den which was under my shed!
Like you, I got only a few days to watch from afar before they were gone. It is my understanding that momma moves them periodically to keep them safe from predators.
I did not get to take pictures of momma as she seemed to only come out at night. I did have one or two trail cam photos of her. But, I did notice that when she brought food to them, she would drop it in the grass and not give it directly to the kits. I guess this is how she started training them to find food.
Taking photos of fox and kits is simply precious!

So you know the thrill of watching the fox babies. It is so awesome to see the love and care they have for each other. I often like animals more than humans…
