I am a Mac user. For our camera club submissions we resize our photos to 1920 on the long side and 1080 on the short side, this is equivalent to 16x9. I use PS but am sure it is possible in LR, go to “image” and click on image size and make your changes there, then save as a copy and choose JPEG, when the next dialog box pops up make sure your image is 2mb or less, if it is greater move the slider from 12 down until you get a suitable size. This will not degrade the quality of your image. When you wish to email the image, initiate the email first and then add as an attachment and keep as actual size. Hope this helps.

Thank you. I also use PS.

The problem has nothing to do with image file size. The problem is the guy I'm sending the images to sees the image when he opens my email to him. He does not understand that the image file is already within the email. I have sent the image to a UHH member who uses Windows who was able to extract the image "file."

You can't fix stupid or bull headedness.

I think the disconnect may be what each of you are terming “a file”. If you are sending an email with the image embedded in the body such that when he opens your email he sees the image in the body of the email, he is calling it an image, which it is. On the other hand, if you are really attaching a file such that when you open your email, all you see is an attachment (xxx.jpg) that must be opened to view it, then you are sending a file. In this context, there really is a difference.

If you copied yourself on the email (or sent it to yourself) as I suggested, what do you see? An image or an attachment?

I just sent myself an image. I attached a "file". It appeared as a photo in the message that was returned to me. I could recover the "File" by doing a "Control-tap" on the image. I use an apple computer. I'm sure Windows as a similar way of recovering the file. Can some of you Windows users tell me how you recover the file from the image when you see it. I could then let the guy I'm sending my message to how to do it. (I suspect it's something like left mouse.)

The fact that the photo appears as an image in the email is THE problem. If the file is attached correctly as an attachment, you would not see the image without opening the attachment. Yes, you can “recover” the file by a “control tap” on a Mac, but it then may or may not have the same characteristics in terms of resolution, etc as the original file, and a Windows machine doesn’t behave the same way. The problem appears to be on your end and the way you’re “attaching” the file. Perhaps a Mac user can give you step by step directions.

Agreed. There are many ways to solve this problem beyond doing nothing.

There are a lot of folks trying to help out...maybe a zoom call with Chg_Canon might put this issue to bed.

I called Apple support and explained the problem to them. He suggested that I convert the image to a PDF file before sending it. I then sent it to both him and another friend. My other friend reported back that it showed up on his Apple iPad as an unopened file. On my MacBook it only takes two key strokes to convert a file from JPG to PDF. I hope this solves the problem.

Why not compress the file into a ZIP container and send an actual image? If I was running a photo contest / display of group submissions and you sent me a PDF, I'd reject the submission.

Why? Would a zip file be easier to handle than the PDF version? I don't know if he can handle a "Zip Container".

I just discovered that it's just as easy for me to make a .zip file version as it is to make a PDF version. It that is easier for the recipient, I can do that. I was afraid he would need download a special file to un-zip it.

Windows now has unzip built in… (right click and extract all on a zipped file)

Thanks, I was not sure if that was the case. Macs are same way so that is how I will do it from now on.

Problem solved! (Hopefully)
