Yesterday when I visited one of my favorite areas, 10,000 Island National Wildlife Refuge, I saw a couple of guys returning to their vehicles. I asked them if there was anything to see and they replied, "Not really, just a bunch of Birds." I decided to go down the trail anyway. The last time I was there with gregory, the birding was not too good, so when I heard this, of course I got excited! It's not a long walk to the observation tower, only about 1/4 of a mile, but I would be carrying 3 cameras and lenses, a fairly heavy tripod along with other equipment. When I got there, the first thing I saw in a distance was a flock of Spoonbills just passing through and then a flock of White Pelicans flew directly overhead. The water there is still fairly high so the majority of birds are feeding elsewhere. But a flock of Woodstorks gave me the honor of spending some time with me and allowing me to take their photos!

Thank you Wizz. I am still working on my BIF photos and this is one of the very few that I took that were postable.
Maybe not the most handsome but great shots, well done

They do have a face that only a mother could love! And although they look clumsy and awkward, they are really quite graceful in flight! Thank you for looking and for your comments!

Thank you very much. And the fish is a Mayan Cichlid, an invasive fish from South America. They were originally aquarium fish that were released or escaped from over flow ponds where they were farmed for aquariums. They are in the family of the Red Oscar, a ravenous fish that eats everything in sight, along with our native fry and eggs. The South Florida waters are overrun with them! During very cold weather a lot of them die and the surface of the canals and waterways are covered with them! They are very good eating and usually very easy to catch. Some people come here just for them, since they are also a strong fish a put up a good fight. Also, being a non native, there is no limit to how many you can keep.
Beautiful photos! Sounds like you had a wonderful day.

Thanks Shane! And it was such a wonderful day that I decided to just spend the night in the woods so that I would be there and ready when all of the birds awoke. Unfortunately, I woke up to a very overcast and chilly morning. But, it was still a good one.
