Anyone here in a photo club that meets face to face and Zooms out to other members

It is called a hybrid meeting and my club has picked up members out of the area over Covid time with the use of Zoom for our meetings. Many would like to meet face to face and we will still bring in presenters over Zoom during the meeting. I have to get head around shooting video of the people in attendance and link that into the Zoom link. I am needing some help here. Video streaming or Blogging or whatever is needed to tie it all together. Any help and advice would be of interest.

The Forth Worth Camera Club is doing the "hybrid" meetings. Folks can log onto Zoom beginning about 15 min. before the scheduled time and chat among themselves.

Speakers may either be via Zoom or in person, with their audio and slide show steamed to Zoom. For our judging the judge may be either virtual or live. Digital images are submitted the traditional was, while prints are brought to the first meeting of the month and the photographer also submits a digital version for display on Zoom during the second meeting.

So far, to my knowledge, we haven't tried having a camera to show the in-person group, and not being very Zoom savy I'm not real sure how that would work. We meet this evening, and if I get any more information I'll add it later.

" I have to get head around shooting video of the people in attendance and link that into the Zoom link"

How many people are in the face-to-face part and how big of a monitor/TV do you have? What cameras are you planning to use?

We have a 72 in. TV installed at the Library meeting room. It works quite well for displaying photos. My Zoom account can handle 100 but we rarely have 30. In the meeting room I would only expect a dozen as many will stay home and watch via Zoom. As to cameras, that is part of the issue. I have a Nikon D750 that will shoot video and other DSLRs at hand. This is the task at hand, shooting video with one or more cameras and piping it all into a laptop running Zoom. I am sure a off camera microphone would be of value especially if we have a member giving a basic class for new photographers and he wants to move about and draw on the white board.

Does the Nikon have a "clean" output that can be connected to the Zoom computer with adapters? In this case "clean" means like what you see on the camera screen without any of the control information. You may have to use a "web cam" like the Logitech 920 that will feed the Zoom computer through a USB port. DSLRs that evolved before Zoom are not known for being good "web cams".

My club had their first hybrid meeting this week and published their "how to" on their website. Even with 8 pages of instructions it took a time to get it to work but it did work. Their was one presentation from a members home and another at the club meeting.

Here is the instructions attached (hopefully) or try this link:

Zoom allows you to switch between cameras connected to your computer through usb. We’ve been doing hybrid meetings for a while and it’s working well. We also do a themed image review and a post processing session zoom only each month. Our field trips have pretty well returned to pre-Covid numbers.

Zoom meetings were a necessary evil for a time, but now . . . . We are doing hybrid meetings, and they stink--interaction among members is basically nil, which is what the club is about, at least to me. Vaccinations are plentiful, and mask use has basically gone by the wayside, for the most part. I see the Zoomers now as too lazy to get up and go to meetings.

That’s my rant for the day.
