Shot the Sun this afternoon with a Lunt 60 Ha Solar Scope, 2.5x Powermate & a monochrome Sony A6000.

Created a mosaic image with the base image from video and the two inserts from images.

Nice day under the sun!

Excellent. I have worked with photographing the Moon but have only worked at projecting images of the Sun. This usually did not give high enough resolution to see sunspots. Now you may have forced my hand. A sun filer may be in my future.

Again, excellent. Thanks for sharing. --Richard

There are two approaches to solar imaging. 1) Ha Solar requiring a dedicated Ha Solar scope, 2) A regular camera lens or telescope with a White Light filter; Baader Solar Film and Orion's Glass Filters work nicely. I also have a Herschel Wedge White Light filter which is the best available but also a fair chunk of cash; it will work with any refractor scope.

Have fun!

With the telescopes at the colleges I taught at, we used a DIY solar filter made from mylar silver sheet. I now have a sheet on order that meets the ISO standard. I'll make a filter for my camera lenses. I'm looking forward to some experimentation. --Richard

The Baader solar filters use this material; work very well. The attached image is a Baader filter for an 8" SCT telescope.

I've made a few of my own over the years. Getting the material flat is not all that important BUT making sure there are no light leaks around the edges IS important. I've used tin cans and opaque plastic containers that fit over the lens as the starting point.

Good luck.
