Last one I commented on with heavy grain I wasn't a huge fan of, but this one I really like. The grain works for me, the bright red background contrasts the model and cuffs well, the empty space on the bottom right, the cropping, all just works well for me. Nice shot.

You are getting a slight halo on the silhouette. you can control the edge a bit using a slight feather on the mask, to make the highlight appear red as if the environment was red, instead of the studio white this was shot in, with red background added post production. I obviously see it first on her right hip and then around her fingers. softening these areas will make it all look less "cut out"
I do like the grain on these, gives a more creative/artistic atmosphere. Much less snap "shot-ish".
I agree with you, mjc. Graininess effectiveness has a lot to do with the emotion of the picture.
Change the red to dark brown and lose the border treatment and the graininess effect will work much better.
