I had exactly the same childhood. For me it was a cheap double feature theatre (either 10 or 15 cents admission plus popcorn or candy of course) I think The Day the Earth Stood Still and War of the Worlds were my first two at about age 5 or 6, but they were more technically SciFi. I saw all the Frankenstein, Mummy and Dracula movies, both the Creature from the Black Lagoon films and other classics, butI gravitated toward SciFi such as This Island Earth and Forbidden Planet. But I have no use for the slasher/chainsaw movies

And do remember Humphrey Bogart’s horror movie, The Return of Doctor X?

It was nice having two movies, cartoons, and news reels. If we want to, we could stay and see the whole thing again. I remember going to the movies when I was twelve. I approached the ticket booth, and the woman asked how old I was. "Twelve." "You're an adult. You have to pay the adult price." I didn't have enough money, so I walked home. I met my brother along the way and gave him my money.

If you want Horror, Just tune into CNN or MSNBC, and watch what is going on in Ukraine. Imagine being shot, blown to bits, or loosing your house and home. No food, no water, and no beer, that is horror.

I love most old horror movies from the '50s but the dumbest one, I believe, was the one with the giant rabbits (can't remember the title).

I like watching horror movies. They're simple, no-thought-required entertainment, and I often find myself laughing at them. The characters do the stupidest things. There's a noise in the woods at night, so a girl wearing almost nothing goes walking out into the woods to investigate. People stand watching rather than running away. You know right at the beginning that the monster is going to win, and no one will survive, so it's not a surprise when there isn't a happy ending. I am somewhat selective in what I watch, but horror movies let me relax and get a laugh or two. How about you?

The biggest money-maker is the adventure movie, whatever that is. They made $164 billion vs $18 billion for horror through the 2010s.

Love the old ones from the Hammer studio in England.

In my experience, The man from planet X got the most screams from the girls but my favorites are both Sci-fi horror movies: (#1) Alien and (#2) Predator.

The vampire movies really got creative, Jerry. The one that I remember most was the gunfighter vampire. You could shoot him but he couldn't die. That is, ofc, until the preacher in town put a wooden cross on his bullet and shot the vampire gunfighter in the heart during a duel. THAT killed him. I guess the genre would be Western Horror Vampire

Other than The Mummy with Borris Karloff, the recent Cabin in the Woods may be one of the best.

How about "Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Slayer"? I couldn't bring myself to watch that one.

I had seen The Birds once, sitting back in the theatre and it didnt have that much impact on me. When I was a freshman in college, they played it in the auditorium. My dorm floor decided to sit in the first two rows. It had a totally different effect sitting that close. It was really scary up that close.

The biggest horror I had was that I paid good money to see it.

I thought everyone regarded "The Blob" as a satire on horror movies!
