Congrats and a tip of the hat to the donor (whose identity I do know, but will also not reveal).

Keep in mind that Ken Rockwell has been saying for a long time that unless you are doing poster sized prints or excessive crops, nobody needs more than 12mp.

Happy shooting.

I worked for a photo company with my 6 point something Rebel, and one of my food images was chosen to decorate the food booth at Taste of the NFL a few years ago. It was crystal clear even in a poster size.

Thank you so much for sharing this story! What a great idea for all the photographers moving from DSLR cameras to mirrorless and can afford to pass their cameras on instead of trading them in on new gear.

I recently posted my desire to move from a crop sensor and bridge camera to a reasonably priced FX model. My post asked for help from fellow UHH’s as to models that were decent and would stay within my modest budget.
I had four pages of responses. All helpful and many highly and strongly varied.

Then I received a response wherein the UHH asked me to PM him. And I did so. He replied that he would be sending me a Nikon D700 no longer needed as he had more advanced bodies as well as a mirrorless. All he asked for was my address.

I was blown away and gushed my thanks!

Many had suggested that I save up additional funds and bump up to a D610, D750, etc. so that was my plan. However this generous gentleman has now allowed me to learn with a still sound body at no expense. I will buy a used lens and begin honing my skills. If I decide to move on to a later model FX, I shall pay forward this D700 and my FZ1000 bridge camera.

It is highly refreshing and heart lifting (in this time of such great divisiveness) to be a part of such a helpful and generous group of folks.

I have kept this donor’s identity to myself as I am thinking that would be his desire.
Kudos to all of you!

Hi,

I have the D700 as well as a number of other bodies including the D610. Don't be in a rush to update. The D700 is a wonderful camera. Of course it would depend on your needs but I find adding a vintage MF Nikkor 35mm f2.0 Ai-s gives beautiful results. Using a manual focus lens slows the photo process down having you think the picture through a bit more. Very enjoyable process providing speed isn't of the essence.

Amazing story of generosity. Restores my faith in my fellow Americans in general and photographers specifically.

Good morning "frjeff",

There are still very good/kind people in the world - although sometimes they are a little difficult to discover. Sounds as though you came across one such individual. Enjoy your new D700.
At 72 years of age it may be a little late but I really would love "to learn with a still sound body at no expense". Just an attempt at a little early morning humor.

All the continued very best to you and yours,

Terry

The D700 is a great camera and should serve you well for years to come. As PAR4DCR expressed in his post, there are some nice people in this world.
