My brother in-law was given a Pentax K100 D camera. He asked me if it was worth buying s lens for it. Any one have any knowledge of this camera.
Not familiar with the Pentax digital cameras, but their film cameras were extremely reliable.
This was a beginner level DSLR about 17 years ago. Any Pentax lens will fit this camera.
It was a very good camera in its day (2006). It is still capable of taking very good photos, the man behind the viewfinder is what will make the images worthwhile. Since he was given the body, an inexpensive Pentax lens is all he needs!
The k100D was my first digital SLR. GREAT color. Any Pentax lens will work.
Same here with a IstD S , i think the early CCD sensors did better then the newer ones , better colors / vivid .

My first DSLR was a Pentax ist-DL which I still own today and have to agree that the sensor in that camera is fully as good as the current ones such as the CMOS. I now have a newer Pentax with twice the pixel count, but I find that the ist-DL still holds its own!
Your friend can join the 6MP Club with the K100D. I have a Pentax DA 18-55mm lens I will ship to him free of charge for that camera. And if it turns out he likes the photography thing, he can start collecting vintage Pentax lenses of any focal length he desires. PM me with shipping details if you want me to ship the lens to you or him.

Like a couple others here, my first digital SLR was a Pentax istD which was a very good camera, and took excellent photos. The K100D is an entry level camera but an appropriate one for beginners and easy to learn. If your BIL would like to learn about it have him check out PentaxForum.com and he can get an e-book written especially about the camera and it will fully explain, describe and guide him to a very good understanding of the camera and how to utilize all it can do.
Wow..i will run it by him..thx

Who or which post were you replying to?
Stan
Yours Stan, very nice you would send that lens.
I just tested the lens on my K5 and it works as it should. Glass is clean and defect free, rear and front caps.
I'll send you a Private Message about it - check your PMs in a bit.
Stan
Also keep in mind that if he ever wants to upgrade the K100D to a newer or current model Pentax DSLR, any Pentax, Tamron or Sigma K-mount lens will work on any later or current model Pentax DSLR.
