The add for the lens said the d7000 was compatible - so maybe a canon is in my future?

D7XXX doesn't sound like a CANON!

The add said my Nikon d7000 would work with the Tamron 150-600 - it doesn’t tho…..

If you had read the thread you would know:
1. OP is not real knowledgeable about photography
2. the lens has a Canon EF mount
3. OP has a Nikon D7000 and didn't realize that just because the Tamron ads say the G2 is compatible didn't mean it came with different mounts
4. OP is considering buying a Canon body to go with the lens.

Why buy a $1300 lens and not check mount? He said it was his sister's. Between the 2 of them something should have clicked. I have a feeling there is more to this

I don't think that will work. The Tamron is probably a EF or EF-S mount. Old film canons use the FD mounts

I would first take Philo's suggestion and see if Tamron can convert it to Nikon mount ... for a reasonable price.

The ad you referred to was not wrong, but you need to get the right Tamron lens for the particular brand camera.

There are a number of canon cameras on the UHH site right now. One is a Rebel T3i. A 5d , others. I just bought the 5ds r. Bargain price.

If your sister have canon I would may change to canon too because you can try her equipment.....😉.... and I would ask her why she gave you this lens.
the Nikon 7000 isn’t the strongest in focusing especially for certain lenses.
