You might find someone to unload the Canon mount lens and get a Nikon mount lens.

If you want to use that lens then look here at the Canon USA refurbished store's selection of dslr's, any of the cameras on this page will work with the Tamron with Canon mount - do not get a mirrorless because it will require an adaptor and all functions may not work.

The two best reasons for getting camera from Canon's refurbished is 1) the factory techs have given it a more complete inspection than most new bodies get coming down the assembly line. 2) it comes with the same factory warranty as a New In Box camera. I have bought two bodies from Canon refurbished and could not tell them from NIB except for the box they come in. We have had zero problems with those cameras and for one of them it is going on 6 years now.

The add for the lens said the d7000 was compatible - so maybe a canon is in my future?

That lens (model A022) comes in mounts that work with: Canon, Nikon, Nikon Z compatibility, Canon EOS R compatibility
I looked it up, the "compatibility" means it works with the dslr to mirrorless mount adaptor made by Canon or Nikon. If I was ordering an adaptor I would call Tamron or the retailer to confirm this as the G2 has been made for a few years and those adaptors didn't even exist when it came on the market.

I also looked it up and someone does make Canon to Nikon adaptors and Nikon to Canon adapters but I know nothing about them. B&H advertises them both so a call to them might get you the information on if one would work to get the lens to work on your camera. Warning, with some adaptors the combo will work, just not with all functions so ask about that.

I think I’m going to look into a canon compatible, even tho I’ve had my Nikon for many years I’m not totally happy with it. It seems easier at this stage of my photography life….. Thank you for great advice!

Something I forgot, as you know since you have the lens it is big and heavy (not as heavy as the Sigma Sport 150-600) so if you use it out and about you will need to learn to use a tripod, monopod or rests and braces like car windows, fences, handy trees/sign posts etc. etc.

If you feel you are strong enough to hand hold then I suggest a screw on pistol grip. I find it makes hand holding much easier.

If you decide to go with tripod or monopod I would suggest a light weight "gimbal head".
I have read an article by a professional wildlife/bird photographer on the use of a gimbal head on a monopod. Tried it once and it works well*. The same would apply to sports or any outdoor or action use.

*my G2 stays on a tripod with gimbal head pointing out the door at the feeders and plants in my backyard. When I go out and about I use a Canon 100-400L or 70-300L with or without a 1.4x III extender.

If you have one near you go to a good camera store and discuss all this with them. Then they can show you how to use whatever you go with as well as order or sell to you any gear you need. I know they are often more expensive but they are a good source of help. I go and buy from my local store at least once a year just to establish a relationship and help keep them in business. My local store also has some good repair techs they work with if you need repairs or cleaning and adjusting.

If your sister didn't have it or didn't give it to you Tamron has something called a TAP that works with the G2 or a list of other lenses that are compatible and allows you to do your own fine tuning and firmware updates. I have one but still get that stuff done at my store or by Tamron Service. They know what they are doing and can do it in the time it takes me to read the directions and set things up. But I have the TAP since it came with my lens and maybe one day I will learn how to use it.

First two shots of the use of a pistol grip and my G2 setup on a tripod with gimbal head.
The following shots were all with the Tamron 150-600 G2.

Canon 7DII with 100-400L and a "Red Dot" type sight on the flash mount/hot shoe - you align the dot with you center focus point and then follow or aquire subjects with both eyes open and the red dot. A lot faster than hunting through the telephoto.

My Tamron G2 with camera on a tripod and with a hotshoe splitter so I have a Red Dot and a flash at the same time. Complicated and delicate but I have gotten fairly skilled with the rig.

You are welcome - I added a long post after the previous one you replied to.

What can I say? I miss teaching!

Your D7000 is getting a bit long in the tooth and is esp. being left behind in the sensor.
You might want to consider a newer body with at least 18mp or even a 24mp sensor.
If you decide to update your Nikon you will still have the problem the lens has a Canon EF mount.

If you decide to switch to a Canon body you will have a different menu and control system to learn. I don't know how different as I have never even taken a picture with someone else's Nikon. I had a Sigma SD10 for my first digital dslr and have used Canon bodies since December of 2013. My wife and daughter also have Canons.

Have a good rest of your day. I now need to get in my zero gravity chair and get my feet up to prevent fluid retention in my legs-Doctor's Orders. I will either start snoring while pretending to read or watch some Deep Space 9 episodes I have recorded.

Good luck with your photography.

I don't have to worry about time for things like photography since I have 7 day weekends (called "retired").

First, ask your sister what camera body the lens fit when she owned it. For example if it is a Canon mount, then check with places like Adorama or B & H Photo for an adapter from Canon to Nikon.

Second, ask if the adapter will impact auto-focus. You may be better off selling the 150-600 lens and getting Nikon specific mount lenses.

It is nice to have two bodies for your two lenses. Look at some of the upgraded models in th D7xxx product line.

There is no adapter from Canon to Nikon, only the other way around. But none that I've seen offer any electrical connection, so no AF, no Aperture Control, No stabilization (I think).

Or you can get one of these from Fotodiox

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTXHwcZdRvI

The reason is that the distance from the lens mount flange to the focal plane (sensor) is much shorter on a Canon 44mm, than it is on a Nikon 46.5mm. So adapters exist that let you use a Nikon lens that are just 2.5mm thick. But even a company designed an adapter for an EF lens to fit a Nikon, it would not be able to focus to infinity.

Are you willing to change to Canon or you a pure Nikon person. Either way not knowing different manufacturers have different mounts is a hard lesson. Sell the lens or buy a body. You might be able to trade the lens for a nikon lens for your existing camera
