New Melones reservoir located in the Sierra foothills between the towns of Angels Camp and Sonora, CA. This photo was taken several years ago, and even then the effects of many years of drought can be seen in the low water line. I drove through this area a few months ago and it was far worse. Extremely low water table.

I've been to most of the places where you take photos. I've driven across that bridge many times to visit the Columbia State Park, especially when the kids were little. When the water in that reservoir is really low, you can look down and see the roads and some of the structures that were covered up.
We used to stop at the Mother Lode Frosty in Angels Camp for lunch. The distinguishing feature was a huge, green frog out front. The kids just called it "The Frog Place." It's long gone. The cabin Mark Twain lived in is near where your picture was taken.
Nice picture. Brings back memories.

Thank you, therwol! I believe that big green frog has been moved to the corner of hwy 49 and the cutoff for hwy 4. I will have to pay attention next time I drive through there. And yes-- I've been to Mark Twain's cabin. Such great history out here in the West! Its also amazing that a lot of the folk here on UHH know this part of California so well
Nice photo. A possible problem for sure. You get water from a municipality?

I used to work at the Calaveras Ledger-Dispatch and I had to cross that bridge a lot as Sonora was my territory. The Jumping Frog Jubilee was always a blast each year. Lot of history around that area.
Copperopolis was a quaint town. Valley Springs, I imagine has been booming for a long time. I left that part of the world in early 90's.
Would shoot pictures of the frogs around town as the students would paint them every year. Some interesting designs.
Is the Angel Theatre still there?

I live about an hour from New Melones, but still in Calaveras county. We are on city water, but a lot of folks up here are on wells.... and some are either running dry or have low GPM.

Yes, the Angels theatre is still here. Vlley Springs has grown quite a bit... so has Jackson!!! I've been here in the area for 32 years now, and cannot believe the population explosion, and of course, along with that comes commercial development. I'm far enough out of town that it doesn't affect me, thankfully.
Pretty place....nice work.
