I am enjoying this post. Here are a couple shots that I shoot for our local animal shelter. Not only are they fun to shoot they help get these little fellows adopted.

Thanks for the challenge, Karen, this should draw a bunch of posts.
I took a trip with my Brother and Dad back in 2013 to observe the "Great Buffalo Round Up" in South Dakota's Custer State Park. They claim to have the largest heard of American bison in the US. They apparently keep the heard in the 1000 to 1500 head population just to keep a good balance of healthy numbers and for the land they have to graze on in the park. The animals are inspected individually, vacinated, and separated to be returned to the wild or sold at auction to cull the numbers depending on the health of grassland available for grazing. A very interesting experience. If you have an interest just google it. And if you go plan to get up extra early to get into the park before they close the entrances to the park.
There is a raffle to be among the cowboys or cowgirls on horseback to join the park rangers (most in their pick-m-ups!) pushing the herd to the corrals.

Of course the ranger said that you can herd a buffalo just about anywhere he or she wants to go.

They moved them slowly toward the smaller pastures and on into the corals.

Once in the corals you could get a closer up-close shot of the beasts through some very sturdy fences.

Many wonderful entries so far. I also have quite a few that have appealed to me, some from rehab centers and zoos.

Wonderful set Jay. Zoos can be terrific sources for photographers, and I love those portraits.
