This is Kirkwood meadow in Alpine county, CA. 7,800 ft. in elevation. The Kirkwood area lies within El Dorado Nat'l forest off of hwy 88 in the Sierra Nevada mountains. There is also a ski resort here. Beautiful area in all of the four seasons.
Image taken with my Fuji X-Pro 2 and Fujifilm 35mm f2. I sold all of my aps-c cameras/lenses long ago, but if you're in the market for one, I only have positive things to say about Fuji. Coming from film photography, these cameras are similar in handling... I always appreciated the separate ISO and shutter speed dials. This image was taken as a RAW file and developed with Fuji's Astia film profile.
Beautiful. I would love to be at this site for a sunrise with a cup of coffee and to enjoy a sunset.
Beautiful meadow scene!
Was the picture taken this winter?
When I lived in Calif, many years ago, 88 used to be closed in the winter.

Thank you, John! It really is beautiful. The West Carson River flows through this area as well-- it's a popular place for photographers and Plein air artists.

Thank you! This image was taken in 2016.
Re: hwy 88-- it's only closed if there is an active winter storm. I was just there last weekend and there is A LOT of snow... but hwy. 88 was plowed and clear all the way up and over Carson Pass.

We were up there right before the Caldor Fire. My understanding is that Kirkwood was saved. I went skiing at the resort when I was younger. Anyway, very nice photo. Are you a professional photographer? You certainly have the skill.
Yes, that is correct-- the Caldor fire did not reach the Kirkwood area, but there are burn scars nearby around Caples Lake and then it moved in some strange patterns toward South Lake Tahoe and also the Markleeville area. The firefighters did an amazing job! We are so grateful for their hard work-- that was a massive fire, very tragic.
I have done lots of paid photography work-- mostly bands and solo musicians for promo and also for CD album photography. I am a professional artist (oil painting) and have been doing this for many, many years. I also do some graphic design and desktop publishing.
