I have an HP C5280 All-in-One that does a nice job of printing on discs. The only problem is that the disk tray doesn't hold the disk securely, so the disk can slip out position, messing uyp the print job. Looking online, I found used and reconditioned trays, but would they hold the disk any better? Maybe not.
I found a new one available from a parts supplier. That little tray costs $71 plus shipping.
I'd buy a new printer before I'd buy a tray.

Have you tried double-sided tape?

If it wasn't a recording disk, that might be an option. That little clip that's supposed to snap into the hole isn't quite as snappy as it used to be, but neither am I. : )

Or use double sided Carpet Tape. It is claimed that it does not leave residue when removed.
Be happy I ordered a color laser printer from Canon at a great price and it’s been back ordered since November 11th with no delivery date in sight.
My father once melted the head on a printer, he never understood they weren't meant to run 24/7, and to be honest warranties didn't say that either to a few sellers regrets. Like your problem, a new head cost about the same as a new printer. He also wore out the drum on a laser printer in six months. Store said but these are good for 25,000 copies, calculation, 30-35,000 made, store said, sorry then, dad read them the warranty, result new drum!
Personally had similar quotes for infrared sensor replacement on TVs.
