Lets' start with the little things.
Leafhopper (
Jikradia olitaria. These favor the vines that grow around the house.

A bit bigger... American ruby spot damselflies (
Hetaerina americana). I've been trying to get these in the very late afternoon, so that sunlight sort of glows thru the wings. After scouring several spots along two area rivers, I only have
one very particular spot where the celestial alignments are just right. Anyway, females (which are easy. They even land on you), and then a male (harder. They are always chasing after something or being nervous about me).

Then there is this very interesting park not very far from me with several lakes, and along the wet sandy shores on the lakes are pitcher plants (!) These carnivorous plants contain a syrupy water with digestive enzymes, and generally I can see dead insects floating around in there. I was also delighted so see an occasional
live fly larva in them as well. Those must be living off of the dead insects while being immune to the plant digestive juices. I gotta explore that later! Anyway, the pitcher plants look to be
Sarracenia purporea.

I knew about the pitcher plants being there (a mysterious lady once told me), but I was surprised to see the lake shores also supported sundew plants, which are another carnivorous plant. This is maybe
Drosera intermedia? The sticky leaves have the right shape, according to online sources. The little fly is trapped on the sticky tendrils, and the leaf will slowly fold up around it.
