This is not a direct reply but an ancillary observation: I had some lens cleaner that was supposed to be very safe to use and I used it on the screen of my Apple laptop computer. After doing that a few times I noticed the screen was looking a bit strange and it turned out the cleaner had actually caused the screen to delaminate. As I recall, about $500 later I was back in business again! Now I am very careful about what I use to clean camera lenses or computer screens.

Lenses are made from glass, computer screens are soft plastic.

I use Zeiss cleaner but I have not found it at Walmart recently. It contains: Water, 2-butoxyethanol, Proprietary detergents and preservatives. It does a good job and has not harmed my lenses or glasses to date.

Yep. Zeiss lens wipes seem to be available at most big box stores. They are safe and effective.

I don't usually comment much , I just read and try to learn but I recently had to get new eyeglasses and when there my eye doctor asked "what did I do to my lenses?"
I hadn't noticed but my lenses had a strange hazing all over them . My eye doctor said it was due to me using the lens wipes on them everyday .
Now my glasses were about 19 months old but I was surprised by his remarks .
Since then I have stopped using the lens wipes . Not sure what to think but I do know my old glasses had a strange hazing all over , no scratches. You had to turn the glasses a certain way to see it .

I am happy that you replied. This is what I reported earlier. I destroyed my lens(I only have one) using these Zeiis lens wipes. They were the ones with paper material. I see that they have lens wipes available with cloth material now. I assume that these would be fine to use. Don't use the ones with paper material!

Respectfully, I don't believe this diagnosis unless maybe you had polycarbonate lenses. Even then how would that be damaged by brief exposure to IPA?

The reason lens wipes of any kind damage a glass lens is because there is foreign material on the lens, as I said, effectively turning a wipe into 80 grit sandpaper. It is not intuitive but Zeiss wipes and shirt tails are the same in this regard.

IPA is the main component of the major lens wipes and is used full strength on multimillion dollar telescope and camera installations in labs all over the world. If there is any literature about Isopropyl damaging lenses I want to know.

Alphabravo2020,
I was only telling the story of my glasses and what my eye doctor told me . Don't know if he is right or wrong but I know I used lens wipes everyday and that was what happened. Usually my eyeglasses get scratched up but not this time instead that strange haze .
Oh ,also since I no longer get "scratch guard or any extra coatings on my glasses I hardly get a scratch on them.

I understand. I also stopped getting coatings on my glasses. They seem to rub off in patches after a few years.

Get them from San's Club or samsclub.com. B&H sells box of 200 for 29.95. At Sam's, they have a box of 250 for 9.98. 1/3rd the price with an extra 25% product to boot!

It's really simple. Go to a camera store, or a camera store's web site. BUY a bottle of photographic lens cleaning fluid and a pack of photographic lens tissue. Do not screw around with other products or various liquids around the house. Protect your expen$ive photo 'toys.'

THE best advice !!!

Yes they are 'expen$ive photo toys'! Some will gripe and argue and I believe it's from not taking a slightly humorous look at themselves! As one example, I have one extremely serious friend that is over the top serious when it comes to taking a photo. On the day of the eclipse he had his camera on a tripod and the tripod was extended to about waist high to 'eliminate camera shake' yep, lots of on his knees action, of course he used back button focus. Since the moon kept moving, he had to continuously reset his position as well as check the focus. This went on for about an hour before he started shooting. He does take good care of his equipment! He will fiddle around with the position of his carrying cases, never know when that sixteenth of an inch adjustment will save the day!!

Another example of why dedication to art requires sacrifice!! Shooting on your knees is painful. And .. Fyi it seems like a small stool could have been of help. Just saying…

Q: Why constantly recheck focus? Once set, why would focus change?

I brought a film camera, clean lenses ;), and 20 rolls of film on my 2017 total eclipse road trip. The N80 failed, broke, would not release the shutter, after a few frames, on eclipse day. 😡. Fortunately I had my OM-D with me as well.

Two for the price of one! Clean lens, clean camera! Better suggestion, remove lens so the back element and the inside of the camera get a good cleaning also. Remember to use Finish tabs since they advertise they leave no film on glass!

Anyone ever use a soft brush? I purchase a big soft ladies makeup brush at Ultra. Run about 7 to 10 dollars used only for my camera keep in a ziplock. Always us the brush first before using a microfiber or wipe.
