Thanks! We have a Jeep Cherokee, can we do the same trails as the Pink Jeep tours? I much prefer my own ride as you can stop for photos.

Absolutely.
The Jeep Cherokee would be more comfortable as well.
I sold my Wrangler after taking my Grand Cherokee over the same nasty roads as the Wrangler went over but in more comfort.

Definitely Montezuma Castle and Well.
Clarkdale and the Copper Museum is amazing.
Sycamore Canyon.
Verde Canyon RR if open this time of year.
Tuzigoot National Monument.
Jerome.
These are just a few minutes south of Sedona proper and far superior to the tourist trap of Sedona.

North a few minutes:
Slide Rock.
Oak Creek Canyon all over.
The rim view from the upper end of Oak Creek Canyon.
For those who can hike easy trails West Fork is awesome.
Again these all and dozens of other close by places way out distance Sedona and the typical over and over me too shots everyone has ad infinitum.

Golly that list took me back! I've been to all those places, years ago, so now I want to go revisit my images.

Anyone can access those roads that lead back to the petroglyphs at the Honanki Heritage Site where the Pink Jeeps go. For a short list of things to do try this link:

I will be in Sedona the first two weeks of January. I know several of the main photo spots, but I’m looking for some off the beaten path spots to photograph. I can hike all day, but my husband has sciatica and can’t go far, so both hiking and driving spots would be great. The surrounding areas would be good too! We have a keep so 4 wheel drive roads are fine.
Thanks Beth

I have been to Sedona only once for a quick day trip and I loved it! Want to get back sometime, hope you fall in love with it the way I did.

Take Soldiers Pass Rd to the school. Veer to the right around the first school parking lot. Park toward the side of the school and take some short trails that will lead to some different and much closer views of Coffee Pot rock and other formations. I agree with earlier comment about the Mariposa Grill parking lot. Great view of Devil’s Kitchen. Some of the pullouts along Red Rock Crossing Road have nice views of Cathedral Rock and, of course, Red Rock Crossing does, too. Some of the parking pass areas have short easy trails. Schnebley Hill Rd is one of those.

Do be careful about parking. You need a permit in many places to even pull off the side of the road.

Hello, If you go to the far side of Sedona on 79-A North you can see the winding road that goes back into Sedona. Further on up is Flagstaff and there you have the San Francisco pikes which I believe are about 12,000 EL. If you travel the other way on 79-A South you can go into Prescott, which used to be a copper mining town, then a ghost town and now the art people have moved in several years ago and have lots of little shops selling the things the people have made. Sedona has many shop and they do charge a high price for their Indian jewelry but it is first class and very beautiful so I guess you get what you pay for. My very favorite area in AR. is the Monument Valley area because there are so many things in and around there to see and do but that's another journey. Hope this helps and have a pleasant journey and Happy shooting.

We took a 4 wheel vehicle tour through the foothills outside of Sedona at sunset. Highly recommend it.

As a 30 year Scottsdale, Az resident with a Raptor-ultimate 4 wheel drive, and numerous trips through the Sedona Area country side, You want to do the following:
1. From I 17, take the Schnebly Hill exit West. You will arrive over Sedona, and stop at the Overlook. It is a nice route and you will then have the trip down the side of the canyons where there are endless photo opportunities. In the 1960-70's automobile companies shot their vehicles on stone pedestals after air lifting them.
2. From AZ 89A, go the Tlaquepaque Arts and Shopping Village, and park, and get out and look EAst. you will see the road that goes East to the Schnebly Hill Outlook. It is a very winding road, and every few feet you have more exposure-altitude for many of the rock formations you cannot see from either the top or the bottom of the road.

You will always remember this trip. Lighting is important. Spend all day - very different and very beautiful Sunrise to Sunset.

Best Larry

That reminds me - Tlaquepaque is a great place for photos. No scenery, but the architecture is great, and street photography opportunities abound.
