Making a "Photo Book"?

As a Portrait Photographer of many years, I never made a "Photo Book" for a client. However, I will be doing a X-Mas event for a client next month and he indicated he may want a photo book for his business.

My Question is: Have any of you produced one of these for a client? And if so, what company or printer do you recommend! And...do you know the URL for them.

I thank you all in advance for your reply's.

Many Thanks,
Boone.

I haven’t made a photo book since I sold my photo lab.
A few of my friends make books and use Shutterfly. Not sure if they can produce the caliber of book you may want for your client.
You might check out Bay Photo of course.
I’m sure most of the top notch on-line photo finishers offer a book product.
Good luck!

I have made several photobooks using Printique by Adorama. I make a yearly book for my wife of the kids and grandkids. I also make one of my landscape photos. The quality is very good for a book that you are only making a limit number of copies. The service is usually fast. This time of year it might take longer, however in the past, they ship within a week or two. I ordered this years book about 10 days before Thanksgiving and it has already arrived.

You can pick from several layouts and paper styles. I am pleased with the quality. I did a lot of research and watched a few videos on Youtube to pick this particular company. My daughter uses Shutterfly. The top companies are all pretty close, however I've been pleased with Printique. If you were printing hundreds of copies, there are companies, who can print them for less per copy and maybe better quality, but for limited copies, I find Printique hard to beat.

I use Mixbook quite a lot with success. They often have coupons for half off, which I strongly recommend waiting for. I have used PRODPI for other printing. They are a printing company that mostly services pro photogs (I am not one...far from it.) I do like their offerings. They have books which are more expensive than Mixbook but also offer such things as boxes to contain books, etc. I would think that wedding photogs would use this site a lot.

The only one I made was from Costco.

I have used both recently. There is a notable quality difference between Costco and MixBook. MixBook is a better product by far. FWIIW!

I've routinely made coffee-table sized photo books using LrC and Blurb. They turn out beautiful. You can also create a book from the Blurb website, as you can from many other photo websites.

I have produced three books on Florida wildlife, my third was just finished. I have always used Shutterfly. My customers like them, so will yours.

I made a book a week ago on Printique and ordered three copies. They came yesterday. Very fast! I have made six or eight books with them and really like the quality and promptness. Also, as a very non-technical person, I can understand their software, something I cannot say about some other sites.

I've used several of the online services, the most frequent was Adorama. They use a very heavy paper, though, and you might not want that. They probably offer options. I never use their pre-set layouts, though.

Jerry is correct in Adorama using heavy paper. I should have mentioned that in my note. At first, the paper caught me off guard, however, I now prefer it. They may have other options with the paper choice. My grandkids love looking at the books, so the heavier paper is actually a plus in my opinion.

If you are LR subscriber it has a built-in Book module that interfaces with blurb. Create a collection with photos, move them around in whatever order, and have at the options of print size etc. I like having all my photos in one place.

I use them exclusively as they offer at a competitive price the most flexible tools to preparing a large photo book. These tools work as well for their smaller books too. Be careful if you chose Shutterfly. They print a nice book, but they well change the color balance to what they think is correct. This can work well if you do not work yourself to set the colors the way wane them to look like. One of these color changes you can reset on a global basis, but the other change they make, you can only reset on each individual picture you place in their books. I gave them only one chance and then found MixBooks, which works much better for me at a competitive price.. happy hunting…!
