I have a Sony a6000 that I have been using with the 16-50 kit lens and a 55-210 lens. However a friend has offered me a Sony 18-200 lens for $250 and I'm thinking this may be a good solution for general all around use. I know it is a little big, but I would appreciate any comments from those who have used this lens.

Not Sony, but in general...
My camera came with an 18-55 and a 55-250.
I bought a Sigma 18-200 which lives on the camera.
I haven't use the kit lenses in years.
(I accept the loss of the 'extra' 50 on the kit lens.)
The Sony 3.5-5.6 / 18-135 is a great lens for this camera

If the lens is in good condition, $250 is a good deal. Inspect it carefully, however, particularly for fungus on the lens elements. If there is fungus, don't buy it!
Forget the price...which seems fair.
Do you need it?
Or do you want it...
Recognizing the difference is the key.
There are positives to the opportunity...you at least can inspect the lens...as opposed to buyiong a cold used one on the net.
Then again...a 200mm with an aperture of f/6.3 is not very impressive.

Then again, it depends on one's needs/desires.....

If one can afford it “want it” can be just as valid as “need it”.

Lol...you are basically repeating what I have said.
The point is realizing there is a difference.
I don't worry about price much anymore...but I still autocorrect my purchasing by sticking with 'need' mode.
I do stray from time to time though...
Like the time my wife calls me up and starts out with a normal conversation and after a few back and forth pleasantries goes...
Did you just buy a boat?
Oh...yeah...didn't I mention that?
I stray sometimes...
The lens is fairly priced...but still a pretty slow lens.
A choice has to be made.
Buy a boat.

I meant about the ƒ/6.3 aperture that you don't care for.
Had a boat, was fun.

Yeah...for a 200mm ... that's pretty dang slow.
