Nope sold the Canon 7dmk2 to complete my move too Sony , after 2 yrs I did add a Sony a6600 , I missed the crop sensor for birds and nature on my daily hikes with the dog . The only thing I have held onto is the Tamron 18-400 and the mc 11 adaptor (seems to work really well on it)

Argus 35mm rangefinder camera back in the early 50s.I wish I new where it ended up. Graduated to a Topcon SLR in the 60s, which was stolen.

Early on I couldn't afford a big name brand so started off with this Ricoh. No regrets. The Ricoh KR-10M served it's purpose and was a great little camera. I haven't used it for decades but I'm going to give it a run sometime soon.
The KR-10M had quite good specification for the time. The kit lens pictured was also a reasonable performer.

My first "serious" camera was a Yashica IC Lynx-14E 35mm Rangefinder Camera - Yashinon DX 45mm F:1.4 Lens.
That F:1.4 lens and TriX made low light (and all) photography really attractive to me.
Purchased in The Republic of South Viet Nam, 1968-69 and I no longer have it.

Looks like it has a motor to advance the film after each shot rather than the thumb leaver. I remember the racket those things made shooting events.

I have one of those - it’s a handful!

My first "real" camera was a Canon AE1 Program. Man I loved that thing. Worked a lot of overtime to buy it, even though I got it from a guy in an alley, who "knew someone, that knew someone", (don't ask)! For me, it was a bargain price for a brand new, boxed and with a warranty camera. But still at the time it was still a lot of money. I had it for a couple of years, and sadly lost it when my home was burgled, but that camera lit the fire that still burns bright all these years later.

I still have my AE-1 Program (it's in the closet right now). I last used it a few years back at a local college for a photography course where we made our own b/w prints in the darkroom. Neat experience. I tried using my one or more of my lenses with an adapter on my Sony digital - colors were WAY off. I haven't taken a pic in a while with the AE-1, but I still have 4-5 rolls of Ilford film left over (and too much paper). I'll take a pic of the camera sometime soon and add it to the post.

Good morning Horseart,

10 years old with a darkroom????? Absolutely outstanding!!! I had to wait until about 21 but I finally built one. B&W only but I still thought the process was a little magical. Had an SRT 101 also. Loved it.

All the best to you and yours,

Terry

My first real camera was a Yashika TL-Electro. I bought it with tax refund money from my first year of military service. Unfortunately, it was stolen while on a trip up Pikes Peak, Colorado. I still have my next camera, a used Canon Ftb which served me well until I bought my current Nikon D5000. I still use many of the techniques I learned from the film camera. I doubt I’ll ever go back to film since I can see my results immediately and share pictures with friends and family at no cost.

Some of us are showing our age a bit. My first was my father's 1958ish Argus Argoflex E twin lens reflex for 620 film - which I still have. The first real camera I purchased was a Kodak Retina IIIC, with it's two additional lens, filters, auxiliary viewfinder - the whole works. While some of you had yours "legitimately" stolen, I was careless enough to leave mine in my High School restroom one day. Still really miss that camera. It's replacement was my "old Ikon", a c.1937 Zeiss Ikon Super Ikonta (or Ikomat) A (530) that I still have and used up to the end of my film days. A fabulous 6x4.5cm compact rangefinder. Those cameras started my collection, which I still enjoy and add to occasionally.

In the digital world, boy how I lusted after the Sony Mavica after it first came out. I believe my first digital camera was a Vivitar, I think 1.4 mpix (which I also still have). My first really capable digital was a Fuji Finepix D700, which I used until the sensor was no longer providing accurate color. I couldn't convince myself (or my wife) that I needed to spend more than that. For my general photography it served me well.

Got my first real camera in SVN in 1966, a Yashica Electro 35 ... sadly, I have no idea what became of it, did not return with me.

Fast-forward - when I returned to film a couple of years ago I found a real nice Yashica Electro 35 GSN, had it CLAd and it has become my EDC, I carry a second camera, usually a digital since my TLR is in Florida being rebuilt.

Still have my ol' Brownie 620 somewhere in my precious archives! And my old Pentax Spotmatic still works.

My first camera was a Kodak brownie, around 14 yrs of age. My first opportunity to use a SLR was in the Army 1971. My duty station had a brand new olive drab Speed Reflex and was never used, we also had a Yashica range finder which was OK. I ended up buying my first SLR and used it instead. It was Ricoh model? slr. I traded that in for a Canon AE1 and liked it very much until I bought a Canon A1 in 1986, They weren't making any more A1's and there were only two available in Cincinnati at that time, so I bought the last one too. I bought a motor drive and used the heck out of that A1 (Istill think it is the best camera I have ever owned). The other A1 never was removed from its box, I sold it 20 yrs later for more than twice what I originally paid for it.

Yes, an Asahi Pentax Spotmatic with a Super Takumar 50mm, f1.4 lens (1968 I think). The camera and lens are still in great condition. I love that lens. Actually, I have used it on extension tubes and a converter to use for macro work with my digital Nikon D300. As for the Spotmatic, it was my "learning" camera. At the time I knew essentially nothing about the basics of photography. But with the help of the little exposure needle and Herbert Keppler's articles I made steady progress.
