Lost my Yashica TL Super...
Loved it, it was so good and easy to use...
Digital just isn't the same experience...

Sorry I missed this when first posted, I got busy yesterday. I bought my first "real" camera, an Olympus OM-1 SLR, a year or two after graduating from college in 1975. I still have that kit although it's rarely used anymore. Some time in the late 1980s I switched to Nikon which is still my primary 35mm format (full frame).

Do you still use it?

Early on I couldn't afford a big name brand so started off with this Ricoh. No regrets. The Ricoh KR-10M served it's purpose and was a great little camera. I haven't used it for decades but I'm going to give it a run sometime soon.
The KR-10M had quite good specification for the time. The kit lens pictured was also a reasonable performer.

(Photo below taken on my phone. Phones are good for stuff like this!)

I bought my first real camera in 1982 late in my Senior year of High School. It was a Nikon EM 50 with a 50mm f/1.8 lens. Still remember the excitement of waiting for the film to be developed and opening the envelope to see the pictures for the first time. I still have it, but haven't used it in years, however I do still use the lens on occasion.

My first "real" camera was this Canon T-70 which I bought while on a remote tour overseas circa 1987. I still have it and actually plan to get some film and go shoot with it very soon. It was the thing that helped me keep my sanity while on a remote tour. My first digital camera was a first generation Canon EOS Rebel (6MB!!). Still have that one too.

No but do remember it was a Pentax ME Super in the 70's

I had a Canon Pellix and was disappointed with it. The thin plastic transluscent mirror attracted dust and was hard to clean. I had it replaced and had the same problem again. I remember having a 58mm f:/1.2 lens.

One of my brothers purchased one new when they first came out. I think he had the same problem, and the pics were very low contrast as I remember.

My first camera was a Konica Auto S2, 35mm rangefinder, bought new from Frank's Camera in Highland Park, CA, in 1972. Its 45mm lens is one of the sharpest lenses I've ever owned. Still in great condition, but I much prefer the instant gratification of today's digital equipment.

My very first film camera was an FDeckel f 2.9 made in Munich, Germany in the 30's. Bought it about 1946. It used 127 film, half frame. My very first digital camera was homemade from salvaged parts. The lens was from a Bell & Howell movie camera.

You wouldn't happen to have any images, good, bad or indifferent that you could share from your first cobbled together digital camera? Thanks

I won't post another photo of a Nikon FTn. That was the first "real" camera that I owned, a high school graduation gift from my father. He had a Nikkormat FTn that we shared. I used that Nikon well into the 80s and shot my last roll of film in 2007 on a Nikon FA.

My Dad. Nice and generous guy. Taken in the Sheraton Boston in 1974 at the time of my college graduation with my Nikon.

Thanks for a great image. For me, it is clear that he knew and was absolutely comfortable with the photographer (you). I am not sure how any subsequent more technically advanced camera could have done much better for you.

I'm surprised that no mention has been made of the Minolta Hi-Matic and Hi-Matic 7. Both great rangefinder cameras from the 60s. Not sure which, but one of those models was taken by Colonel Glen to the moon. I owned one (just cannot remember which one, but it wasn't my first "real" camera).

I have a HiMatic 7 and 9, but they were not my first cameras. I enjoyed using them, but haven't done so for decades.

Mine was a Ricoh TLS, Singlex with 55mm f 1.4 that I bought in 1967 or 68, and I still have it and it still works as it always did.

My first "real" camera was a Nikon F Photomic FTN bought new in 1969. I sold it 10 years later along with the lenses I'd acquired to finance my second "real" camera, a Pentax 6x7 which I still have and still use on occasion. In the intervening decades I returned to 35mm with Olympus OM2, now long since sold. In the early 2000's I bought into the Minolta Vectis S1 system and had a lot of lenses for that. I think I still have one body and the 400 mm mirror lens. It was an APS SLR system and took really good pictures. I picked up a Nikon FE for a good price at an auction (the battery was dead and all the idiots at the auction thought it was broken). I added a Nikon F6 to relive the glory days of a top of the line Nikon SLR, several MF systems (Bronica ETRSi, Fuji Pro 6x9 (the "Texas Leica"), Rolleicord III, the venerable beast the Pentax 6x7.) When I went digital in 2010 I stayed with Nikon, starting with the D5000 and eventually upgrading to the D7100. My most recent digital is on a parallel track (mirrorless), the Nikon Z6 which I love.

The camera was hard wired to my computer. I don't remember if I saved any images and I no longer have that computer. The sensor, by the way, came from a toy digital camera that belonged to my 5 year old son, with his permission. I was limited to table-top subjects and the images were OK. And I forgot to mention that I was 12 when I bought the film camera I described.

About 1965 I had a Pentax S1a with a light meter that fitted over the prism housing and coupled up to the speeds dial on the top plate. It all went in to a king-size Pentax case. Early 80's I bought a black Pentax MX which had a Judas window allowing me to see the lens barrel through the viewfinder.
