Yeah, that’s just your opinion. While did ask specifically for the opinions about that particular lens he also asked if anything wider than 24mm is useful.

Yes, and I own this particular lens - not a different brand, a different model or a different FL zoom than his question. Gave reasons for wider than 24 mm for this specific lens. For ultra wide views/ultra scenics of beaches, the Grand Canyon or Yosemite, there are uses for this lens. Your point??? - Bless your little heart.

BTW - I've tried it for closeups and ultra close ups, and other uses. So, far - the intended use per the manufacturer/designer is the 'best' use of the lens. Not trying to adapt it to other types of shooting. Or, show us your pics of the 15-30 mm Tamron lens on your full frame camera, please.

Do you think that any lens is interchangeable & comparable with another?? A 15-35 is a different optical design than a 15-30 from the same manufacturer. Did Tamron make a 15-35 in recent history? Thanks for your research. But, at the fruit market or when buying lenses, you can't compare one lens of one design with another. I'm sure you understand this. Or, I hope you do.

Rental is a great idea, but the thing to take away is that there is a learning curve after you first get your hands on a wider lens than you are accustomed to. I came across some slides from many years ago when I had just gotten a my 20 or 24 and took it on a trip. Errors and distortions I would not get today. They are great fun once you get them figured out!

I'll second that! The more I use my 14-24, the more I like it, though there is a learning curve (you do have to watch for distortion) as has been stated

I have been trying to decide if anything wider than 24mm is useful. I'm thinking about family gathering around the table, landscape, inside rooms, and street photography. I have been looking at the Tamron 15-30 mm G2, do any hoggers have this lens and what do you think about it and what do you use it for? Thank you for your comments and help.

I'd say more than 50% of my shots are at focal lengths wider than 24, often at 14 or 16. You can get very dramatic shots with ultra wides, if you know how to use them. Very useful for architectural and also landscapes, if you have something in the foreground. I'm going to post some image from my Japan gallery to illustrate, \all shot wider than 16mm (down to the equivalent of 12mm FF)

Delta...

When I travel, and we do a lot of traveling, I usually favor my Canon EOS R5, connected with my Canon 11-24 mm zoom lens....

One of the biggest problems you're faced with today, when traveling, are unforgiving individuals who are always near, close to or, always getting in front of you, your camera and the scene.... that is the challenge.

To get a good image, it takes a combination of patience, your education and skills for composition and the technical aspects of your camera and the right "living room", in order to get a good image.... having said that, when you can get closer to your subject, and narrow the distance, you improve your odds tremendously. As for the Canon EF 11-24 mm, it is nice and wide angle but has very little Distortion which always can be corrected in post-processing.

Having said all the above, today the wide-angle 11-24 is pretty much-my walk around camera lens as I travel in many many cities... My second most favorite lens which I carry - but very seldom use is... the 24-70 mm lens. I use that lens when a little more reach is required and people getting in the way is not the issue.

But, my 11-24mm is the "mammer-jammer" choice for walk-around travel.....

Cheers

Thank you for sharing your enchanting rendering of a rural agrarian "road less traveled" Iconic vanish point perspective latent within... Fabulous color harmonies... The wide aspect ratio you've chosen imparts a cinematic aura to this delightful narrative... Yes cmc4214 that Nikkor is likely one of Nikon's finest offerings... albeit maybe just a tad heavy at 1 kilogram... Some serious glass!

I like is. But remember, the advanced digital editors let you adjust the 'verticals' of these types of shots, letting your fix the leaning into the center aspect of the distortion.

I quite like converging verticals sometimes.

Epic Japanese series kymarto... totally loving the second image... so reminiscent of Claude Monet's serene impressionists renderings... would have never guessed it was a 14 mm on your D800e... such an ethereal color palette... this reflection scenario is truly a dream within a dream... so beautifully done...

Thank you for sharing kymarto

I keep an 16mm on my Fuji X-Pro 2 all the time; for one thing it is a superb lens, and I have always liked a wide angle, it is amazing what you can do with it. On my fuji X-E2 I have an 18-55 fitted all the time- same reasons !

Well I have certainly learned a lot from each of the comments on the 7 pages. I do plan on using the lens on my 5D-, Mark 4 and I am asking about the Tamron 15-30 G2 because I have a coupon for $175.00 towards the purchase. I really do appreciate the feedback of other brands and focal length and the pictures are a big help. I'm sorry if I started a war among some of my friends but I was just trying to get as much information as I could before dropping $1,300.00 on something I might not be able to use as much as I should.

You did NOT start a "War" and you certainly have the right to "look" for information...
.... Others may have presented what is perceived as a "War" because of their options and "arguments"
..... But, information is information...

The bottom line is that each of your individual pieces of equipment is a "tool" in your "tool chest" and, it is up to the individual to pick and choose the tool which "fits the parameters" and "Needs" of the operation which is you... It is your choice and you artwork which you are creating...

Like many others on this site, I have a number of cameras, and I have an even larger number of lenses... It is up to me to "Know my equipment" and then, be able to choose the right equipment for the given job... AND, that choice is made with knowledge and with information........... Which is what you are seeking

Carry one with your "investigative journey" and happy clicking my friend.
