Over 40 years ago Texas wildlife photographer Jerry Smith mentioned to me that, if in the photograph, the reflection in the animal's eye was a single white dot the focus was perfect. Jerry shot with a Nikon and an adapted Leitz Telyt 400 mm f6,e lens on Kodachrome 64.
