This fall I did something totally different (for me) in southern Utah. Instead of my usual 20-30 day long backpacks into the most remote corners of canyon country, I played tour guide to two separate parties. Took my partner, her eldest daughter and son in law and then my best friend from Junior and Senior High School on 10 day treks to southern Utah. Wanted them to get a sense of what's out there but to also avoid the crazy crowded places (i.e. Zion and Arches N.P.). These first images are from Natural Bridges, Hog Spring and Capitol Reef N.P. All could be reached with less than 3 hours of walking! Stay tuned for more tomorrow! Please view as downloads

I particularly like the first photo - the hands. Native Americans dead for eons reach out to us.
Really like the first one. It must be spectacular to see in person.
I've never seen petroglyphs like #1 in the U.S. before. Saw some similar in Australia. You have posted some fine photos here!
Actually they're pictographs (painted) rather than petroglyphs (pecked)

Nice shots. My theory is that nature's patterns on the cliffs were the inspiration for the ancient ones to leave their pictographs and petroglyphs in an effort to portray the mysteries that they saw.
Thanks , it was a series of discrete day hikes (about 20 of them). None longer than 5 hours
The 3rd image of the rock face is remarkable color example of the stone's intensity.
