I’ve been checking the Pound regularly for puppies. Hard to find. Also checking Rescue sites as well. I would like to get a particular breed which is why I’m exploring online.

What breed are you looking for?
We love Maltese and have rescues four to date, our latest and youngest was only three years old, we have had her now four years, she is a treasure, when we aquired her, she had not been groomed in three years.

You can always check with Craig's List and look for people selling dogs. I sold mine when I had to sell my house and to this day I miss the dogs.

You seem desperate to part with your money one way or the other. Take it to the local SPCA and donate it. Im sure if you really want a dog they’ll accommodate- and you’ll actually have a dog in exchange for your money. Surely you can’t believe you’ll receive the dog of your dreams this way. You may get a photo of one. Or maybe one that’s DOA.
WAKE UP!

Cruel? Something needs to get you out of your stupor. Sorry.

Has anyone had success with purchasing a puppy online? I’ve read some warnings, and am trying to get the breeder to provide more information for a Western Union payment. They first wanted to use Zelle, but my bank doesn’t have that option. Apple Pay was another option, but I can’t get it to work. “Recipient Cannot receive at this time” message returned. Suggested PayPal, but they didn’t have a PP account. Will not accept Credit Cards. They would accept prepaid gift cards from CVS or Walgreens. Choosing not to do that per Scam warning about using PP cards.

Warning signs are flashing, yet I really want that pup. Any thoughts on what I can do to verify the legitimacy of this breeder?

Would it be reasonable for you to go in person and pick up the pup taking cash, check? It's not unusual for people wanting a specific breed to drive short and long distances to pick it up. I would send a deposit but not pay in full for the pup without being prepared to pick it up at the same time. You could send a deposit via Walmart's money gram. Anyone you designate can pick up the money gram at their nearest Walmart minutes after it is sent .

I wouldn't touch this deal with a 10 ft pole!!!
The forms of payments they want are one of the biggest tip-offs that these are scammers.
Why? because the kind of payments they want are untraceable and no way to get your money back.
A legitimate breeder should be able to accept PP or credit cards.
You even said yourself, the warning signs are flashing!
No matter how bad you want this pup, I don't think you are going to get it from these people!

will

You have had lots of answers- some helpful and some definitely not. I purchased my two Brittanys via online breeders and picked them up in person. It is not unusual to do that. Many buyers drive across several states to pick up a pup. I made inquires to other kennels too. All I checked into required an application, all had pictures online of the litter and all required a deposit even before the pups were ready to go to their new home. I sent deposits by check and paid the balance by check at pick up.
All did personality tests of the pups and placed them with buyers for the best possible fit. All had information about the lineage with pictures of the parents, grandparents. All had health certificates of the parents and the pups had received their first shots. Reputable breeders are very picky where their puppies go. For some breeds you may have to get on a wait list for upcoming litters. Now if this sounds like the breeder you are dealing with then probably no worries.

I hope this is helpful and answers some questions.

Be really careful. My niece bought a "Newfoundland" only for it to turn out to be a "non-Newfoundland"...with medical problems. She fell in love with it when she first got it and saw it...and it cost a fortune in vet fees thereafter.

What is the breed of the dog you are interested in? Perhaps if we knew that, some of us could provide additional help. In any event, the best advice is for you to not rush into this, and to pay carefull heed to the excellent suggestions you have received.

Moose, you've had all the great advice you need to stay away from this puppy seller, so I won't add any more. I just want to wish you luck and let you know I hope we get to see the lucky pup that goes home with you. Keep us posted!
