Well half voted for higher prices and energy dependence so I hope you get your wish when prices hit
$6.

Thanks for reminding me about the terrible environmental impact we would anticipate like the devastation created by the Alaskan pipeline. And I stand corrected that decreasing supply of a commodity should have no effect on its price.

The decreasing supply is totally artificial, courtesy of your government.

Actually, that is correct. Keystone was meant to move crude oil from Canadian oil fields to ports where the oil would be shipped to other countries. Very little or no oil was being sent to US refineries. In addition, once the pipeline was completed, there would be less than 1,000 American workers to maintain it. The environmental studies showed that this pipeline would be a disaster for migrating birds and animals, cut through Native American sacred lands, would always have the potential for spills and other environmental catastrophes. Think about the pipeline from the offshore drilling rig in California which was ruptured allegedly by a dragging anchor from one of the container ships waiting entry into the Port of Los Angeles. Some California beaches were damaged, as well as marine wildlife and birds.
Actually, that is correct. Keystone was meant to m... (show quote)

And moving this oil by rail and/or truck is better!? The P/L would have been the environmentally friendly way to move this oil.

Think yourselves lucky, here in England, we are paying £1.50 per litre, 4.54 litres per gallon makes about £6.75 per gallon, that's something like $8 per gallon

I think one U.S. gallon is roughly 3.8 liters or about 5.75 British pounds (don't know how to get the symbol), which I think is just under $8 U.S..

The 2021 crude oil production by country in thousands of barrels per day:

Here are the 10 countries with the most oil production (thousands barrels per day):

United States (12108)
Russia (10835)
Saudi Arabia (9580)
Iraq (4620)
Canada (4129)
China (3823)
United Arab Emirates (3068)
Kuwait (2652)
Brazil (2604)
Iran (2213)

So, explain to me how this is dwindling, when we produce more oil than any other country on the planet. Now, if our usage is greater than our production, then the problem is one of demand, not supply. As it turns out, we export millions of gallons of refined and crude:

The United States Energy Information Administration (EIA) has reported data for 2020 exports by the ten leading exporters.
...
Countries by rank.
Country/Region Oil exports (bbl/day) Date of information
Russia 5,225,000 2018 est.
Iraq 3,800,000 2018 est.
United States 3,770,000 2017
Canada 3,596,690 2018

The whole subject of oil production, imports and exports is very confusing. If are exporting thousands of gallons of refined and crude oil per day, and importing an even greater amount, why are we exporting at all? It could lower our prices at the pump if the oil stayed here. It all comes down to one irrefutable fact: big oil companies make more profit off of the exports than they pay for the imported crude. So, if we have to pay more at the pump because a substantial percentage of our gasoline is being shipped to 174 other countries, big oil is very happy, they get money from us, and from the countries that import their refined products.

Please explain to me how the act of cancelling a pipeline that had not yet become operational resulted in a rise in gas prices.

It didn't. Keystone was primarily for the export of Canadian oilsands production to Gulf Coast refineries for ultimate export out of the USA. Next to none of the refined product is used for gasoline.

Hard to manage when we are no longer energy independent. I cringe when our President pleads with OPEC to pump and then export more oil for our use. They have us over a barrel. Pun intended.

We are spoiled in the USA. I just got back from Iceland. Gas there was averaging 2.69.9 Kr per liter. That's about $2.07 USD per liter.

As someone who worked on that exact brand of gasoline dispenser, (why the "handle" "gastech") the prices displayed are "true" to the extent that someone may have programed them for a "photo op". Other than that the highest price I have seen in San Diego County was $5.899 for 87 regular at brand name station. Most are around $4.50 a gallon at a brand name station. $3.999 at my local Costco.

Try Euro / U.K. prices. Yesterday I paid £1.649 per litre for Shell Diesel Ultimax. That works out to $8.61 / U.S. gallon.
