Many hotels in Thailand forbid guests from bringing durian into their establishments. One of the best descriptions I have read about durian is that it is like eating strawberries and cream in a poorly kept public toilet.

Just yesterday wife and I were in the local Costco, cruising the aisles.
Saw canned Durian for sale!
I've only heard of it and how nasty it is but apparently there is a market for it.
Yech!

Durian is ever so foul-smelling however Surströmming is downright putrid and for the life of me, I can't understand why there are those that eat it.

I lived in Thailand for 5 years but never acquired a taste for it. My Thai friends loved it although it was relatively expensive. Saw durian ice cream in a grocery but I wasn't willing to try it.

i remember the whole HP building was evacuated due to "gas leak". Not gas...a durian was smuggled into a conference room on the 5th floor for a celebration. Like most businesses in Sgp, durian is not allowed in the building.

I find durian ok in taste, but i dont like the after-taste or the gas. Prefer other fruits to this highly-prized fruit.

It is not an acquired taste! One would have the indulge many times for that to occur.
Being near it is more than most can tolerate.
They say the taste is nothing at all like the smell.

I guess its kind of like Limburger Cheese, A very mild and smooth flavor.
However, if you get it on your hands, it smells like you had a hole in the toilet paper!

Our Costco has dried durian in bags...like dried apricots or prunes

it has a very creamy taste/texture. Tastes much better than it smells, but after having it many times (including some of the super expensive varieties), I still dont understand the fascination for it. Some pay thousands of dollars for some of the exotic varieties of durian. I? Not one cent!

All forms of public transport in Singapore have the symbol of a durian with a slash through it. Not allowed. Fines can be levied. Yes. Most hotels and businesses do not allow
