A bad thing happened somewhere.

I don't believe that for a second!
The oil spill is off of Huntington Beach, LA. The pipeline that carries the oil from the ship to the shore some how broke. They stopped the leak. Now it's clean up time. All the surrounding beaches are closed.
That's a shame. We know it will happen again, with the same results.

Was the bad thing done by 'some people?'

Actually, Huntington Beach is in California, Not Louisiana.

But most people would not have read it like that.
That's why using
whole words helps reduce ambiguity.
Especially since members are from all over the world, let alone the US.....
Evidently, the pipeline break was caused by a ship's anchor. Just wondering why the pipeline path is not marked by buoys, since a lot of ships use that passage?
Similar event happened on Lake Michigan. Ship dropped anchor and hit the pipeline. Fortunately, no leak happened, and the ship's owner will have to pay for the investigation. Seems anchors are not to be dropped in that area around the Mackinac Bridge.
