The ONLY file you copy to your camera is the firmware. NOT the the folder it extracts in.
I just did it and it worked perfectly.

That's not correct. The P1000 is different. Please read the update procedure on the Nikon Website.

I'm afraid I am just going to give up. I have downloaded the file at least a dozen times, using two different internet browsers. I have download the file directly from Nikon website. The file will not open. I get a message to close all my applications, restart windows and try again. I have done this numerous times all with the same result, I am unable to open the file and nothing will extract. Thanks for all your help. Mike

Maybe a camera store could do it for you, but is it even important enough to get the update?

Sounds like your anti-virus hates you and does not want you to open an executable file. It is a virus in itself, you know. All anti-virus are by definition. They do things in the background without your permission and do not tell you. That is likely what happened here. An executable program has the potential to wipe your drive. But in this case your av is only protecting you from a hoax. Turn the crap off, do your job, and live happily ever after.

I'm a camera technician and do these for a living. I'll be happy to help you with this if you want to ship it to me for a general service and firmware update. If you are interested, please reply by private message.

Rick

rjriggins - You are wrong. I have the p1000 and I read the instructions on the site when I downloaded the file. Maybe you should read it. I am 100% correct and my upgrade was flawless.

Actually, I have solved my problem. My daughter, who is a lot more computer literate than I am downloaded the file, extracted the .exe and put it on an SD card and I loaded it into the P-1000 and everything updated. It must be my computer, so I am investigating a new purchase. Thanks for all your help.

Not until this one. The program just won't extract. Any suggestions?

I am able to extract the firmware.bin file, put it in the root directory of the SD card. When i put it into the P1000, the P1000 doesn't recognize it. I have reset the P1000, took out the battery for 5 minutes, put battery back into P1000. Still the P1000 doesn't recognize the 1.5 firmware.

I have sent this issue to the Nikon Support desk and am waiting for a reply.

I down loaded the firmware.bin file on a Windows machine, put the firmare.bin onto the root directory of the SD, started up the P1000, yet it would not recognize the firmware.bin file. Still waiting for Nikon to call or email me.

When you download the file click the EXE as directed, this will give you /P1000Update/firmware/firmware.bin

Copy the Folder firmware (including the file) onto your SD card, and it works!!
That took some doing mind, Thanks Nikon!

Don't waste your money on a new machine unless really necessary. The instructions above should work.

I had given up on the 1.5 Firmware Upgrade to my P1000. However, after going through this post I tried one more time and this time copied the folder to the SD Card and it worked. Thanks to everyone in this post.
