September 23, 2021, we were early arrivals into Zion NP. The bus driver was telling us that they have been watching a California Condor family. The fledgling has been seen in flight a number of time but highly unlikely at this time of day. We got off the bus at a stop where a Ranger has been setting up a spotting scope and much to our delight he had it tuned into the nesting area. The Ranger was explaining the family can be seen exercising their wings and warming them in the morning sun, preparing for flight.
This day I did not carry my 500 mm lens to the park, only my 18/250 mm. Who would have expected to see such a special photo op? This being one of the rarest birds on earth and normally I would not have expected to see them at Zion! It is not a spectacular photo but I can say I have seen a Condor in the WILD!
What a great moment for you! Congratulations.

A young Condor, how cool is that!
I'm impressed - and jealous!
We'll be there in three weeks. I will be on the lookout for your friend.
Was lucky enough to see this over our Photo Optic Site at Andersen Peak near Big Sur back in the mid nineties. Moments later a lady dressed like a hiker carrying a radio with a very directional antenna appeared, she had been tracking the bird for whatever agency that had released it to the wild. This one has the number 71 on its wing. I think I took this picture with a Canon ELF 24mm film camera.
