I can't answer that question for sure. But being a pro scuba diver for over 30 years, I can attest to seeing hundred
perhaps thousands of pelicans just walking around on the ocean floor... Just Burping!

I like and respect that you’ve visited the depths of the sea. No doubt, you’ve seen many and wonderous creatures in your dives. However, being an ornerythologist, I think you may have discovered a new species, the Pelicant. Like the flightless cormorants of the Galapagos, these are Pelicans who couldn’t, or wouldn’t, take flight after overindulging on anchovies and sardines. Their pouches serve as air sacks and ballast. Their Pelican cousins are good swimmers and can dive down up to 30 feet. At what depth were you when you witnessed these scoops of Pelicants? Pics? Regards, JohnMG
