Here’s what I don’t like about my recent transaction with B&H. On 8/18 I ordered the Sony RX10IV and the online purchase when smoothly. At the time of purchase I was provided with a delivery date of Monday, 8/23. That was fine I wasn’t in a hurry. The following day, 8/19 I received an email from B&H stating they were using “expedited” shipping and I would get the camera on Saturday, 8/21—great. But the email also said that a signature would be required. I didn’t like the idea of having to stay home all day so I began trying to see if I could narrow down the delivery time; not possible. All day Saturday, until around 4:00pm, the status showed “in transit at Orlando.” Then it when to “arrived Orlando 11:52am.” Well is was well, 4pm was it still coming?

Around 5pm I checked and it said the package had been delayed and would be delivered Sunday 8/22 before evening. Just wonderful, now I’m married to the house for a second day. Still no window of delivery time, just Sunday 8/22.

B&H has a great reputation and I have purchased from them before without issue. I didn’t check their competition on this order but I will next time. I don’t know why they use Fedex when it’s common knowledge their service is no where near as reliable as USPS or UPS, at least here in the Tampa/St. Pete/Clearwater area. And why the required signature? I have purchased items more expensive than this one from other vendors and no signature was required.

One last mention about Fedex. Several days ago my wife ordered air pods online and the seller selected Fedex as the delivery service. Immediately she got an email saying they would be delivered on 8/17. Late on 8/17 an email changed the delivery day to the next day. They were delivered on 8/18 in the evening, more than 24 hours after the initial delivery date/time. It took Fedex 8 days to get these from Tennessee to Tampa. But no signature was required so we were not MARRIED to the house. It took Fedex 5 days to get my camera from NJ to Tampa. Both my wife and I have agreed that from here on we will pretty much purchase from companies that DO NOT USE Fedex.

Final note: The camera arrived at 12:30pm 8/22. The driver rang the door bell and then departed. No signature was requested.

My daughter runs a postal place. Feed ex is the slowest and most expensive. I never use them. The address always late. And next day delivery will not be delivered on Saturday out Sunday, so do not pay for it. Call and get another camera, tell them you did not get it. A porch thief got it ...he he ..just kidding

I asked one of our FedEx Ground drivers a few years ago why tracking shows 'out for delivery' a day or 3 before I get it. He said he sometimes loads his truck the night before or early Saturday morning. Once it is scanned as on the truck it shows out for delivery, even though he never delivers at night, nor on Saturday or Sunday.

FedEx is never on time, usually a day or two later than they say "It's out for delivery". It doesn't matter if it is B&H or Canon (I did both this year). It is aggravating to sit at the house and fume about when will it arrive. Then when they deliver the next day (one time was 8:30 PM in the dark), they don't ring the doorbell or knock on the door but just put the package on the front porch and leave. GRRR!

OP—you are in Tampa and I am near Sarasota. My beef is how UPS hands over delivery to USPS. You read it right. I just ordered from Adorama and it came to Jacksonville and then got handed over to The Postal Service!!! It took forever to get the package. This is the second time this has happened. The first from from Overstocks in West Palm Beach to Sarasota. It didn’t arrive. I got BS about it being bundled in a larger shipment. I cancelled the purchase and got a refund. The original arrived three months later.

Fed-X is generally hard to work with. My experience is similar to the post.
Not just B & H but other vendors as well.

Amazon amazing & last mile delivery. No signature required...
UPS not to bad.

I have found that you can't determine who is going to be the carrier. So, I looked at their web sites and selected alternate delivery locations. The locations I picked were open during the times I could come by to pick up my packages. Now, I just watch my email and it tells me when the package was delivered. Signatures don't matter when done this way since the location operator verifies who I am when I pick up the package.

After reading and contributing to this thread I realized I haven't ordered from B&H in a while. So, since it looks like I might not be seeing my Z fc for a while, I ordered a refurbished Df to see how it goes. I placed the order yesterday evening and it is showing shipped this morning, with expected delivery today by FedEx. It will be interesting to see if, and in what condition it gets here.

B&H seems to like having things signed for. I had to wait around yesterday (like where was I going to go, anyway? ). The package arrived around 3:00 (FedEX). The guy asked my name, and entered the info on his electronic pad. Without a signature, people could say they never received the item. Both B&H, FedEx, and UPS deal with thousands of packages a day. Well, maybe not B&H. I'm impressed that we get our packages as quickly as we do. I've had the PO, FedEx, and UPS provide delayed delivery, but things have always arrived.

NOT B&H's fault. They have used UPS as well and UPS lost an order that I bought from them and B&H had to send me another iPad. UPS lost it. So it's a crap shoot with all the delivery companies. You have no idea how many rent checks that USPS lost or delivered a week or more late to me. So don't blame B&H.

Right now most delivery companies aren't requiring a signature because of Covid. I had $9,000 of new appliances delivered and NO signature. They simply take a picture of the package that they delivered. You could have just gone to work, or wherever you needed to go, and if they really really needed the signature, you could go to the FedEx store and get it either that night or next day.

Here in Brooklyn, NY USPS is really bad news. A camel would be better for a delivery instead of good old USPS! UPS and FedEx seems to be the best way to go for a timely and secure delivery in Brooklyn,NY.
So I guess it all depends on how you perceive which is the best delivery service that works for you. Some stores will allow you to choose their method of delivery. I don't know about B&H, give them a call and ask.
Glad you receive your gear, sooner or later.

I live in CT and have had issues with both UPS and FedEx. Most of the time they are good and, like everything in life, sometimes there are bumps in the road. I bought the same camera from B&H and it was shipped UPS, signature required. I wasn't home on the 2 UPS attempts so I was instructed to go to the UPS site (not a UPS Store) to pick it up within 5 days. That was an experience for another day. Now I ship FedEx to a convenient Walgreens and UPS to a convenient UPS Store. They "sign" for it and I get an email to pick it up. Whether its electronics, wine, clothing or some other toy, it is a lot easier and I am not married to my house waiting for a delivery. It is also more secure than leaving a $1600 camera on my doorstep.

Since 7:30 this morning my estimated delivery changed from today until tomorrow. Looks like FedEx picked up the package from the B&H warehouse in N.J and took it to Pennsylvania instead of Delaware.

Surprised? No!

While I was typing this an email popped up from UPS stating they will deliver a package today that was picked up in Maryland. I bet it shows up before I sit down to dinner.

I can't stand FedEx as they are always behind, at least in my area. It normally takes two days from New Jersey (B&H) to just over the PA line. I do like B&H, quite a bit, but I have changed to other vendors, when possible, until such time as they bring back UPS. My best guess is the switch of carriers was all about $$$. Best of luck.
