Sometimes UPS hands off packages to USPS. It does not create any problems because when UPS delivers the packages to our post office the UPS driver and my mail carrier have coffee together before they start their routes.

While I love B&H, I have a similar complaint about FedEx. I live in the mountains of western Colorado and while FedEx does an OK job given what they have I greatly prefer UPS. And I've told B&H about that.

Signature on delivery is a PITA - there is no reason why FedEx or whom ever can’t keep you in the loop - with porch pirates I do see the problem - right now I have three “need to pickup” notices

I have had to sign for everything I have bought from B&H and Apple. Today I am waiting for delivery of a lens I purchased from B&H. I know I will sit here all day waiting. Fed Ex is the big problem. They can’t deliver anything on time. Our cat food was a week late (had to buy Friskies at the corner gas station) and our kitty litter was late 5 days ( ugh). I wonder why Apple and Amazon can give me two day delivery but it takes FedEx two weeks from Tacoma which is an hour away from me. UPS generally delivers my packages to my neighbor. 🙄

We have noticed that neither FedEx nor UPS are bothering with signatures no matter what the seller has told you. They sometimes leave it outside our front door and give the door a quick "tap-tap" and leave. We are up 21 winding steps from the driveway (30 feet from street to steps) so they often just leave the package in the carport at the bottom of the stairs and hit their horn with a quick "beep-beep" as they drive away. Either way is OK with us as both locations are relatively secure from casual observation.

I stopped buying from B&H for one reason "FEDEX". When they used UPS my deliveries to Delaware were next day. Henry P did point out that I could choose the carrier, but only one was free. Amazon, with a warehouse 40 miles from me, gets most of my business.

During the peak of Covid I ordered some things from Walmart. They used FEDEX who delivered boxes that looked like they went through the war.

I stopped buying from B&H also for the same reason. Fedex has lied to me a few times

Here’s what I don’t like about my recent transaction with B&H. On 8/18 I ordered the Sony RX10IV and the online purchase when smoothly. At the time of purchase I was provided with a delivery date of Monday, 8/23. That was fine I wasn’t in a hurry. The following day, 8/19 I received an email from B&H stating they were using “expedited” shipping and I would get the camera on Saturday, 8/21—great. But the email also said that a signature would be required. I didn’t like the idea of having to stay home all day so I began trying to see if I could narrow down the delivery time; not possible. All day Saturday, until around 4:00pm, the status showed “in transit at Orlando.” Then it when to “arrived Orlando 11:52am.” Well is was well, 4pm was it still coming?

Around 5pm I checked and it said the package had been delayed and would be delivered Sunday 8/22 before evening. Just wonderful, now I’m married to the house for a second day. Still no window of delivery time, just Sunday 8/22.

B&H has a great reputation and I have purchased from them before without issue. I didn’t check their competition on this order but I will next time. I don’t know why they use Fedex when it’s common knowledge their service is no where near as reliable as USPS or UPS, at least here in the Tampa/St. Pete/Clearwater area. And why the required signature? I have purchased items more expensive than this one from other vendors and no signature was required.

One last mention about Fedex. Several days ago my wife ordered air pods online and the seller selected Fedex as the delivery service. Immediately she got an email saying they would be delivered on 8/17. Late on 8/17 an email changed the delivery day to the next day. They were delivered on 8/18 in the evening, more than 24 hours after the initial delivery date/time. It took Fedex 8 days to get these from Tennessee to Tampa. But no signature was required so we were not MARRIED to the house. It took Fedex 5 days to get my camera from NJ to Tampa. Both my wife and I have agreed that from here on we will pretty much purchase from companies that DO NOT USE Fedex.

Final note: The camera arrived at 12:30pm 8/22. The driver rang the door bell and then departed. No signature was requested.

I think it all depends on where you live and the local management of the shipper. Here in Calif. I have had no problems with FedEx or DHL. The USPS was great at our Pomona home but now in Grover Beach they are fast but too often put our packages in the wrong locked cluster of boxes that are at one location on the street. Larger boxes are sometime delivered at our door and hopefully the correct door. USP can be the worst. They don't use the plus 4 of the zip code and sometimes deliver our packages to the wrong street and address. Luckily those shipments were from Amazon so we immediately got a replacement or refund. The only real issue I have with B&H are the delays due to their numerous long religious holidays. Same with Adorama. But I know that up front. The signing for packages and the lack of a specific delivery is a pain in the .... I have had it happen too. Plus even weirder things happen when picking up a camera at the post office to avoid delivery issues but it was not easy contacting a given delivery person in the building before public hours. She said it would be easy. It was not. Another time I was able to meet my delivery person at medical building and get my package before I had to leave for the day. My normal delivery time is much later in the day and I did not want it left laying around.

It IS about B&H. They used to use UPS and switched to Fedex after some bumps at Christmas time a couple of years ago. All the delivery services had trouble that year because online ordering had jumped so much but B&H bailed. I've started ordering from other vendors, Hunt's Photo and Video being my favorite but also Adorama. Hunt's is a smaller chain but they actually seem to care about their customers, not a strong point at B&H.

It's not a problem to get B&H to ship UPS, just call them and ask for UPS. The problem is that what they would have shipped free on Fedex will be charged the market rate on UPS. For me that added $70 to one of my orders. Fedex is the pits where I live- the deliveries from B&H take anywhere from one to five days longer and they throw the box at my front step. UPS delivers it gently and, per my request, rings the doorbell to let me know I have a package because it's the same driver every day. So it is B&H's choice- Fedex always stirs up a lot of negative comments here and UPS usually gets more of the positive ones.

I agree - they may also get a better rate on shipping from FedEx - maybe if more folks started asking for UPS B&H might get the message. If you ask for UPS and they tell you there will now be a shipping cost ask them the waive that fee - or cancel the order

Not sure about FedEx, but I'm pretty sure UPS still has an option to sign for your packages online. You may need to register for a 'free' account. In effect you are releasing the driver from getting a signature.

FedEx left a TV for us at another house, luckily the owner was honest and finished the delivery!
Just had our own bizarre Fedex encounter. Last week we got some fencepost tops from Home Depot delivered by Fedex. Inside the sealed Fedex box was our fencepost tops and a small box with a Fedex label. Not noticing the label we opened the box and saw it was a new iphone. Looking at the label carefully it was from a customer about 75 miles away and was addressed to another state. It was going to Apple and was marked REFUND, so presumably it was a new iphone being returned.

I checked the tracking number online and saw it was stalled for the past week at a Fedex facility near us. I called Fedex and told them about it and asked it be picked up and delivered correctly. The rep said he would start a case on it. The next day I called Fedex back and asked them when it was being picked up. The rep said it usually takes 48 hours to resolve a case and take action.

The third day I called Fedex back and the rep said she would schedule a pick up for the following day. The fourth day I called back and was asked if the rep had given me a pick up number. I said no. They said she hadn't scheduled any pick up, and suggested I call Apple customer service. I said, no. She then set up a pickup the following day sometime from 8AM to 8PM.

The 5th day fedex delivered another package to us and said they had a pick up request. We know the driver, a nice young man, and he said, that's crazy, I'm in this neighborhood every day. He said he would ask his manager to call the sender and let her know her package was en route to Apple. This episode was worthy of The Twilight Zone. How did a sealed box from an Apple customer, returning an iphone to Apple wind up in my sealed box from Home Depot?

If you sign up for notifications, FedEx emails or texts you that your package was delivered.

Where I live, I haven't had not much problem with FedEx. Although, there have been several occasions where the date has changed. Sometimes by 2 or 3 days. I often see FedEx at the local post office dropping off packages to USPS for local delivery.

Covid may be the reason they don't require signatures for now. Contactless deliveries.

My comment on deliveries is that you can usually select an alternate delivery site, where you can go to pick-up your package.

I spoke just last week with my FedEx delivery driver (Kansas City metro), and he told me he had 79 deliveries to make that day, and by early afternoon, he had done 46 of those deliveries. He said he could have started on either end of his route, and that he only gets one truckload per day. The drivers are doing well to get you your package within the delivery window. Their delivery accuracy is pretty good actually. They move a lot of packages, and in my experience they “do deliver!” I have seen no real differences between UPS, FedEx, and DHL. If they didn’t make satisfactory deliveries they would disappear from the marketplace.
