Took a walk through the park around noon today and 40-minutes was all I could put in for it was ever so hot and humid. I did find not one....but two mantis along with an assortment of wildflowers. I took enough shots to post a few sessions so I'll have more finds to share later.

Very nice series. It seems even the mantis is taking it easy in the heat and humidity.

Thanks, It was as though it was thinking, "What the heck are you doing out here in this heat?"

Very nice, sippy. Did you collect a mantis for a stacking session?

Thanks, Quixdraw. They are so good at stealth that I seldom see one so seeing two of them today was a special treat.

Thanks, Curmudgeon. We don't have the beauties that you have shown us out there. Ours are quite tiny and they exemplify the term, "busy as a bee" for they appear to be in constant motion so I get a lot of bee-butt shots.

Thanks, Carol. Wildflowers are my real passion when in the field for each one has its own beauty and a wide variety of ways to compose them. Finding insects on and among them is a special treat.

Kpmac, No I did not for they are exempt from my collection of species although they would make an interesting live pet for a terrarium. I have been gifted some Carolina Mantis which are drab brown and much smaller by Bill (newtoyou) that I stage.

I only collect abundant common insects (no live spiders or butterflies) and those that are considered to be destructive and invasive pests along with a few ticks that I've pulled off my butt. Now...if there were a way to collect and dispatch chiggers I'd put an end to each and every one of those "Spawns of the Devil".

Very fine set! I seldom see mantis nymphs, but starting soon, I should see a few adults of our two local species. Funny how that is.

A fantastic set of images!!! Gary
Around noon? geez, the day is half over at 9:00 am
Yesterday morning was nice out here but a tad humid but the light was fantastic!!!
But I didn't do a thing, just messed around waiting for my new Zero-Turn mower to arrive, while waiting I received my case trimmer and found out the case holders for it are proprietary , another $40 , Oh well
Mower arrived, finished mowing and you are right, I got HOT but I was finished.
The old mower had problems which I couldn't repair without spending more than I wanted to and dropping the Hydrostatic transmissions Again!!!
Should have bought the mower last year, the new one is more comfortable, rides better and a bout 10" shorter but 6" wider.
