I think this is a matter of fact. What you mentioned has been the problem of the camera industry for the past few years. Cameras have become a niche item now instead of a product desired by most everyone.

So after wringing the last little bit of life from my beloved old phone, the time arrived for me to replace it. I didn't go for the latest and greatest, (and most overpriced), but I wanted something decent. Sorry to all the apple owners out there, but I converted and became a Samsung fanboy years ago and have been very happy with them ever since. Anyway, I wasn't particularly interested in the photographic capabilities, I'm happy with my dslr already, but I wanted a "good phone", sleek, easy to use, reliable, good battery life, no problems with calls, fast enough for web surfing and texting.. You get the idea, just a nice phone. So I bit the bullet and got myself a new Samsung galaxy note 10 plus. Now I wouldn't say it was cheap, but it was less than the newest version. So after a few days using it and setting it up how I like it, I'm as happy as can be with it. Works better than I was hoping for and the big bright clear screen is a pleasure to look at. Here's the bit we're waiting for, I finally played with the camera, and wow, I'm blown away. Picture quality is awesome. It has wide, normal and zoom. Image stabilization. More filters than I'll ever use. Shoots in "night mode" with no need for a flash and sucks in enough light for great images. This particular phone has a stylus you can slide out for writing notes and also is really helpful In a lot of apps, but it also works as a remote for the camera, which works perfectly, especially when on a tripod. As you can see, I could go on and on about this and I've only scratched the surface, and I'm still learning how to use it to its full potential. So here's the real talking point. Do you think that these phone cameras will get to the point where a substantial percentage of people will stop buying "real" cameras? I realize that lens choice can't be replicated on a phone, and personally I like the feel of a real camera in my hands. But for non-enthusiasts these are not really issues, and in a lot of ways the capabilities offered by these phones can exceed those found in cameras. A lot of camera companies are struggling right now, and some have already quit. Do you think owning and using a real camera will become a niche hobby, or the realm of professional photographers? Honestly, my new phone camera will never replace my regular camera, but it's light, slips into my pocket, and takes awesome shots, and I know that there's gonna be times when I'm choosing not to bring my camera, because I already have the phone with me, and I concider myself an enthusiast, so imagine how many young people will never have that urge to go out and buy their first camera. Anyway, I think I've said enough, I just hope the camera industry can survive, and that camera prices don't go through the roof!
So after wringing the last little bit of life from... (show quote)

I recently bought one of the most expensive cell phone on the market because my two "real" cameras are starting to get heavy on my long hikes. The phone takes excellent photos but is awkward to hold and to frame a shot. Some subjects "fly the coop" long before I am able to take the perfect shot. Frustrating enough to keep my cell phone in my pocket and take a "real" camera on my outings. . . .
P.S: It's always nice though to have a good cell phone handy for stationary targets.

Actually, you're a little behind the times. Many people have long since stopped buying real cameras. Have you looked at the sales figures lately?

Uh, for the price some of the upper tier smartphones are going for now, you can get a nice mirrorless or DSLR camera.

If you are blown away with the Note 10+, imagine your opinion of S21 Ultra 5G
The specs:
108 MP, f/1.8, 24mm (wide), 1/1.33", 0.8µm, PDAF, Laser AF, OIS
10 MP, f/4.9, 240mm (periscope telephoto), 1/3.24", 1.22µm, dual pixel PDAF, OIS, 10x optical zoom
10 MP, f/2.4, 70mm (telephoto), 1/3.24", 1.22µm, dual pixel PDAF, OIS, 3x optical zoom
12 MP, f/2.2, 13mm (ultrawide), 1/2.55", 1.4µm, dual pixel PDAF, Super Steady video

It is amazing. I sometimes question why people who do not shoot for pay, even bother with DSLRs or mirrorless. Super quality and it produces RAW images.

Cell phone cameras have uses that cameras don’t have. As a physician, my Nurse Practitioner takes pictures of X-rays on her IPhone and sends them to me to view on my iPad Pro. This nay takes a matter of minutes. She also takes pictures of all kinds of shin lesions, swellings, red eyes, etc.for my opinion. On the ranch, my nonEnglish speaking Cowboy, sends pictures of cow/calf issues, newborns, broken fences, etc. to communicate happenings to me in real time. Would I give up my DSLR’s and my R6, my RX 10 mk4. No!! Each has its place

perhaps go to your local zoo + stays there for several days? Don't forget to grab Your smartphone!

Just a short addendum: yesterday evening, we went to "Abbaye de Fontenay" (74 km from Dijon). Located in a little valley, in a forest and quite humid environment.
A chor of singers ( called "Les Ambrosiniens"- only men- they sing mainly "chants grégoriens") gave a show during 2 hrs.(21hr/23hr). I took my DSLR/tripod/flash...and my wife had just her cellphone (Apple I-phone SE). The "admins" had placed ca 1200 candles everywhere around the abbaye...inside...outside...in closter...eerywhere! It looked really beautiful. Saddly everybody had to wear a mask (covid !). It was hot weather+humid : so my glasses are always "foggy". So I let very often the AF doing its job, doing the mask down just when I was sure to be alone in a spot...or far away from somebody. Anyway, I took about 80 frames. As I went home last night, I edited the flow work: more than 50% ended out of focus... Of course, they were only the best "compositions"! But my wife took also a lot of photos: she managed to take really nice shots, exactly those one I guessed they should end the best but turned out very blurry! Merci chérie, You saved the evening!
Anyway, I prefer to take photos with a decent DSLR a give a call with a decent phone. But not my wife...Who cares?

One observation.
I did not know that X-Rays were still done on film.
All my work is digital and just sent as the original digital.

Digital X-rays are not done on film. They are projected on a computer screen. The iPhone pics are of the computer generated pictures. On a good computer, the images look just like an old film Xray. My aides can photo and text image to me wherever I am for interpretation. I review a second time at the clinic later. Allows for instant consultation.

But, you have to beats computer station to receive them? We are not set up for that. Easier to send photo of image on screen at clinic. They can be sent wherever I am at. A poor country doctors method of reaching a goal.
