I'm traveling in North Florida soon. What are some of the "don't miss" photo ops for that area? I know I'll be in Gainesville and north in Miscanopy, Cedar Key, Bradford and Union Counties. My purpose will be to experience things as a first-time visitor (then write about them). Any tips appreciated. I especially would like a "perfect" location for a nighttime skyline shot (and maybe a dark place for star shots one night!!) THANK YOU!

Your tips last summer were invaluable during a road trip west! SEE??? :-) (My FIRST attempt at night shooting!) I DO love this group!!

Marineland Beach is one of a couple FL beaches with exposed rock ledges.

Point Washington State Forest is on my list as well as Paynes Prairie Preserve and a handful of springs like Ginnie Springs and Ichetucknee Springs State Park.

Black Rock Beach is secluded with alot of driftwood and dead trees. It looks to be really cool at night.

Gainesville: the Millhopper State Park. (Huge, deep sinkhole, nature preserve, steps going all the way down).
Nearby: Micanopy. Historic town. Michael J. Fox movie Doc Hollywood filmed there.

Cedar Key is designated as a "Dark Sky" site...however you need to know that the location is the small local airport (Roads on both sides). The airport is not used at night, so runway lights are out. North of there is the "Big Bend" are of Florida with several county parks along the gulf (Big Bend Wildlife Management)...several locations to shoot from

I can only speak about Cedar Key. It's simply a quaint, relatively small and unhurried town right at the Gulf's edge. Plenty of bed-and-breakfasts to stay in, great, great views of the Gulf, and some good places to eat. If you enjoy seafood, go to Tony's where one of the menu items is its multiple year multiple award-winning clam chowder. Plenty of photo ops, especially if you can catch a storm approaching in the distance.

Don't miss St. AUGUSTINE! Not only quaint and historic, but there is a park full of gorgeous peacocks....and they love to pose!
I have 3 beauties on a wall with many others in a book.
Oh...and I drank from the Fountain of Youth and I'm pushing 90!

Those all sound perfect!! THANK YOU!! I know Paynes Prairie & Ginnie Springs are close. Black Rock is too far southeast for this trip. Where is Marineland Beach?

With a waterproof walkaround camera, Try a 'Float' down Itchitucknee Springs, -
"A Three Hour Tour", with all sorts of Wildlife, - Birds, Turtles, Otters, and perfectly Clear water where you can see to the White Sandy bottom.
It flows at about 3-4 mph, and there are 'Tube Rentals' all around, with a bus that picks up the Tubers at the end of tha run. - (Even w/o a Camera, a Really Cool and Relaxing ride thru a beautiful, area!)

Do you mean Weikiwachee Springs? I guess you didn't grow up in Florida....or things have changed since my early days in St. Pete....Possible!
